Tuffy Security is Interested

I like the idea of having a Tuffy center console and I don't have any special needs/requirements. Here are my suggestions:

- make it similar to a Jeep XJ centr console This has the same handbrake location as the 80's.
- I like the front cup holder option but the Tuffy has to transition "nicely" into the oem shifter console.
- I like the idea of mounting a CB or HAM radio inside but the width of the console may dictate this for us!
- The top elbow pad needs to be wider than the rest of the Tuffy console. Another words, I don't want to lean to the right to rest my elbow, as I have to do currently with the OEM unit.
- The center security console must not exceed the length of the oem center console. Another words, the rear foot well space must remain the same.
- I don't need a single cup holder in the same location as the oem console. I prefer a wider elbow rest pad.

I like the idea of an e-brake inside the console but also think the top of the console, (ie the arm rest and subsequent compartment) should extend over the ebrake to maximize space. I always thought there was a lot of wasted space above the e-brake. I think a comparment this size could get a lot of use from me.

The Ebrake inside the console might take a fair bit of re-disgning. However, I agree with you on having a wider elbow rest pad. If the factory cup holder goes away, then the elbow pad can be made wider on the factory console - just a guess.

Keeping it simple maybe the best way to keep this practical. Practical means relatively low cost... whatever that mean.

I plan on talking to Tuffy next week to determine roughly what the cost is.

This looks is similar to what I think a practical version should look like. The ebrake is in the same relative position. Though, our version would be a bit higher for an armrest.

Tuffy Center Console/cup holder Installed

Basically I followed other installs projects and tweaked them a little to get the final outcome, which is posted here and flickr. I used the deluxe model in tan (same as IronYuppy) and I am very happy with the out come. I used a 1-1/4 hole saw to re-route existing wiring through bracing ridge, 3" metal channel to make up the difference to level, and additional hardware to complete the build. I also like the position of the cup holder, its location provides easy access and does not interfer with passenger's leg room, glove compartment function or auto seat adjustment.

Regarding the ebrake inside the console...
Instead why not rig some hoop or latch so the ebrake is 'locked' basically attached to the console that way would-be thieves would see the ebrake pulled all the way up and locked and just say 'pass, too much hassle'
Would also make it still easy to use

The deluxe model looks to be about the right size. Also, looks like the middle seats would fold down without problem. All Tuffy would need to do was make a mounting bracket.

Tuffy install.

Not trying to hi-jack this thread, just sharing what I learned, this is what I used.....1/8"x 3"x 6" "C" channel for mounting bracket, 4- 1/4x1" fender washers for level stance, 4-1.5x25mm hex bolts w/ appropriate nuts and washers. The to the install is the aligning the console so it looks factory and fits between the PS and the "E" brake, then carefully cutting into the existing plastic shroud around the shifter, following-up by re-using the factory plastic edging to hide your rough cut, then using the 1-1/4" hole saw to re-route the factory wiring harness through the ridge brace. Once these steps were completed I then could install the console. Also, to answer the original question, this install allows the user to have factory-like usage of the center install, ex: free and clear usage of folding rear seat- see pics...

Does that front cupholder circle allow you to put a larger cup in without contacting the dash? ie: can you put a nalgene bottle in it? or a long-neck, um... cola?

the latter of what everyone else has suggested but i would also like to see room to mount gps's scangauges etc, sorta like a lot of cop cars have in the crown vic's, a police style console

I agree with DOWNEY but.... thats what I thought when I started the York Group Buy that is finally nearing the end. We originally figured 10, then a day later I was up to 20 and by the end of week 2 I had 30 names. Fast forward two months and I have 15, yes 15 people asking to be added to the list if there is a second run. My point being, it can go both ways.

Now for me the issue is my console is already heavily modied but I would be interested to see what they had to offer. I have already been looking into making a new cubby out of aluminum and making it lockable but if Tuffy came up with something good I would rather go that route.

Some things I would need to consider going Tuffy:
• The very front of the unit, where it goes under the shift console, would need to be notched out for wiring.
• The box must be lockable
• The unit would need to be a bolt in to the stock location which should be easy considering its just 4 side bolts.
• Ideally there should be enough room for a small MAC laptop. Care less about PC garbage.
• There would need to be space for an inverter AND a CB or HAM radio
• Speaker grill would be ideal for said CD/HAM
• Space to install my own ports/plugs and outlets would be a HUGE plus
• Cup holders for front and rear are a must
