Is this thing gonna be cool against water exposure & s***??

Normally I wouldn't reply to a crass question like this but ...

I believe the motor is sealed fairly well for splashes and whatever water it would be exposed to in the above mounting location. There is a black plastic cap on the rear of the unit. This cap conceals some wiring and a relay. The switch has a clear soft plastic cover to give it some protection from water. If you want to prolong the life of the compressor doing under-hood duty, you should consider diaelectric grease inside that cap. Put some on the switch, the relay, and the wiring connectors. The motor itself isn't sealed. The red case has cooling slots on all sides and water will get inside and could get to the motor. I didn't open it up past the black plastic cap but I plan to do some additional sealing before it goes back underneath my truck.

As for price/performance, these are a super bargain at $25 and a very good compressor for $70 if you have to pay the higher price. Git 'em while you can.

I'm Tsunami-ed! Found two locally and am on the phone with the store arranging shipping/pickup. Wow, looks like an excellent product for $25 - a steal at twice the price.

Thanks very much for bringing this to the forum's attention!!

I would be more worried about heat, mine are going in the rear with the spare tire. If mounted under the hood, at least open the hood when it's running. A PC type fan blowing on it maybe a good idea?

Can you use it for cleaning and blowing stuff off like a regular compressor, or just for filling tars?

there is no reservoir built-in so I don't think it'd blow much

and why tsunami anyway? what's a tidal wave to do with all this? another creative marketer?

I just bought two MV50s at my local Schuck's store for $25 each. They have one left in stock. I plan to keep one in the truck and one on the shelf for a spare.

I tested it out - it's amazing for the price. You couldn't blow much dirt off with it, but unlike the cr@ppy little 250psi compressors you usually see, you can actually feel the air coming out. I could plug the end of the hose with my finger and let the pressure build up, but once it hit 20 psi that was it.

The little sucker can pump some air.

I plan to deflate one of my 33 inch MTRs to about 20 psi and see how long it takes to get back up to 36 psi with the engine running.

An online test someone linked to had this pump get 16 psi into a 36 inch tire in 5 minutes, beating a Quick Air 2, I think.

The storage bag is a little lightly constructed, but well put together otherwise.

If you don't have one yet and have no decent OBA setup already, start looking!

John,

Glad you chimed in as I was going to PM you that I found them at the Sprague Schuck's. Glad they went to a forum member. Mine were in Sandpoint - one still there.

Anybody got a lead on who carries them in the south east? No Schucks or Costco here, and the Piggly Wiggly don't carry them.

Yep. Didn't see one there. They had some battery charger/tire inflator combo made by Vector. No specs on the tire inflator, so I passed on that POS.

Peebles,
That looks like a nice little unit. If you plumb in a receiver (a 3 gallon) fints nicely under the driver seat) and install a pressure switch you could always have 125psi ready to fill your tires. I can fill 2 roughly 32" tires from 15PSI to 30 PSI (when my tank is full) simultaneously in around 3 mins. My compressor pushes 1.5CFM at 0 PSI, so yours would do really decent.

Cheers.

Pics please.

Are you saying in the cabin, under the driver seat...
...or...
Underneath the truck, between the frame rails, under the driver seat....

Ill post a couple pics later today... underneath the truck beside the framerail. Perfect spot...like it was meant to be.

Later

The compressor is mounted beside the overflow tank and the winshield washer fluid tank. I welded up an aluminum platform... works good. The black thing on the one side of the compressor head is the air filter, plumbing and green pressure switch on other side.

The tank is from an air compressor. You can see how I bolted it to the frame... Two of my slider supports are on either side of the tank, so the setup is perfect, IMO.

I've run automotive air tools with my system and my airhorn is always ready (used mostly for fun, of course), so Im happy with my system...

Cheers.
