Hello All-
I am in then process of installing the TSM Mfg. transfer case e-brake on my '86 FJ60. Years ago I gave up the ghost and swapped out the rear drums for discs. I have had the TSM kit for a while now and finally decided to install the thing so that I have a functioning E-brake.

Can anyone advise on their best orientation of the caliper on the transfer case face? Additionally, is it best to use an or the OEM E-brake cable? And if so, any advice on the best route for the cable to be run? If possible, photos would be massively helpful.

The old E-brake cable was a dumpster fire after hanging out exposed under the vehicle for 12 years. I have an OEM cable on order, but if there is a 'better way', I am all ears.

Thanks in advance!

TSM doesn’t offer customer service?

I don't have one so can't comment on install, but I do recall a few extensive threads dealing with exactly the questions you're asking, so even though MUD search is poor, the information is here, somewhere. But the above suggestion is probably your best source.

There are a few photos, yes, showing orientation. But I’m flying blind on the cable routing until I receive the OEM cable

The FJ60 parking brake cable goes all the way to the rear axle and both drums. You would need a much shorter cable since it only has to go a short distance from the handle to the transfer case. I have zero experience with the TSM kit but if it were my my first thought would be to try a 79/80 FJ40 parking brake cable, since those have the floor mounted handle and transfer case mounted drum.

This is why I strongly advise against rear disc brake conversions on +80 Cruisers... you could always just put the drums back on too.

It's been a few months since I started this thread. The TSM Mfg. E-Brake kit was installed on my rig. Pictures are below for reference. The key item was the cable between the handle in the cabin and the clamp mechanism. As referenced above, the Trollhole post does a good job explaining the install. Photos from my install are below. I reached out to Controlcables.com at (562) 949-0455 or Control Cables | Industrial Motion Controls | Street Rod Parts & Accessories - https://www.controlcables.com/. They made the cable & shipped it to me super quickly. I will put up the part number in a later post as the Invoice is in an office file.

With how you oriented it, do you have any body lift at all or just the stock body mounts & bushings? That single ball swadge on the end of the cable gives me pause, but depending on how much force is on it, it may not be an issue (thinking the fact that it's only a hand pull brake and not a pedal style like in GM or Mopar vehicles).

Overall, are you satisfied with it?

Hi Spike-
There is some lift. Years ago, I installed the medium (?) lift springs from SOR. So, the body, sits higher than normal. It's up maybe 1.5-2" i'd guess. My tech was aware of the cable length and adjusted the mechanism accordingly.

Yes, I do enjoy it. It's flat where I live and in almost all cases, I can secure the vehicle by simply leaving it in gear. However, there are times when I set the e-brake in my driveway while starting it & I don't have to brake the car to keep it from rolling back down the driveway in the morning. Certainly other situations analogous to this, but the e-brake is definitely helpful.

Additionally, the part number from Control Cables, as referenced by my earlier post, is TE6MM-415-28.5-411-516B-43.3. Part cost $40.80 plus $15-$16 in shipping.
