I know what f's up a paint job on moving vehicles better than anyone, having had to repaint more than a few cars and motor homes over the years, learn the lessons and remain in the industry.
Now, as to the tow-ability of this product : don't even think about it. Especially if your 40 has a prized paint job or is an over paint. Trollholes cover looks to be a well designed and tailored for a parked vehicle but for on the road, designing a tensioning system would be near impossible to prevent damage, especially at that price. If you want to vaporize paint, and maybe even find mystery holes in the sheet metal, go ahead and tow it for a couple hundred miles at freeway speed. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a stick.
Beyond that, it looks like a darned good product, well worth the price.
I can only envision a paint job being roughed up if the top isn't secured tightly enough when being towed. But that should be common sense, otherwise you could be driving with a parachute behind you for a few minutes then you're left with nothing but beautiful topless 40.
If it's loose enough where the top is aggressively cutting into the paint, then you obviously haven't secured the top well enough. Obviously it would require more than 6 total grommets to do the job effectively. Also if the top is also not tight enough, it will flop and eventually lead to tearing and being shredded by wind.
And that near impossible part sounds like a challenge.
Good to know. I'll bring it up at our next meeting and see what they say. I never had thought of using it for towing. More of when it's sitting. I'll get back on the towing thing next week.
I'm looking forward to any answers you get.
