The views of the skylines, mountain ranges, meadows and forests, were up there with past trips to Yosemite and Yellowstone. Laying in my bag on a mattress of pine needles with a view of the coastline and valley below, not a sound but the whistling of the wind through the pines, it's hard to describe that kind of beauty and solitude. Good times for sure!

Very nice report. Good to see you made it to the peak! Beautiful up there isn't it!

Wow! Spectacular Scott!

Thanks for sharing.

The weather was perfect and since we split the day up by setting up camp on the North Rim early and heading for the summit in the afternoon we avoided the midday glare and Ollie was able to get some great pics. I left my camera at home knowing he would take spectacular pics.

Going to hike Saddleback this weekend and San Gorgonio the following if anyone is interested.

Nice! Still never hiked San J, didnt realize there were so many trees at the summit.

Funny you mention the scenery as good as Yosemite and Yellowstone. Two winters ago my wife and I spent 4 days in Yosemite doing some cross country skiing, etc and one day we're in the Valley walking up to the falls view and she says, "You know, its nice here, but Big Bear is just as nice." haha, cracked me up, but I agree, we're lucky to have some great mountains in our back yard

Hey Brad, we do have it good here in So Cal. I must say the crowds in Yosemite in the summers are out of control so I go spring or summer and it makes a world of difference. I have been in the valley in November and although it was in the 30's, it was also crystal clear and there was hardly a soul to be seen.

Very nice. I am invited to do this trail on Sept 10th. I've done it from the tram station, but it would be nice to do the ridge from Humber Park.

There is an unusual amount of water flowing for this time of year so you should be able to filter even in a few weeks. Having said that I would check with the rangers and look for a trip report on Summit Post before you hit the trail. I don't drink that much and I went through 5 liters up and back. Have fun.

Good to know. Not having to carry so much weight in water is nice. Yep, I tend to drink plenty of water during hikes, as I sweat it off in liters....
