TRD wheels and stance

Until I made a simple modification to the mounting bracket at the end of the chain - now my 5th TRD wheel with 285/70-17 BFG mounted fits just fine in the stock spare location :D

Now I can do 5-tire rotations and have a fully functional spare on board at all times

what exactly was involved in the modification to get the trd to fit in the spare location

Above the bracket at the end of the chain which holds the spare tire in place, is metal tube which surrounds the chain. This tube is welded to the bracket. The length of this tube prevents the bracket from being able to be inserted in the opening in the center of the TRD wheel. I took a Dremel tool and cut off about one inch of that tube. Now, with the shorter tube, the bracket can be easily inserted into the TRD wheel and then pulled into position securely in the stock spare tire location. It's a very easy mod, and has been documented by others - I can't remember where I saw it, however.

I have an issue that just arouse. Put in the TRDs with BFGs and had no rub for about 3 months. Now the front right has started rubbing when at full left turn. I keep the pressures at about 38-40psi. Weird/annoying.

I would check the alignment settings on your UCA's. If it looks fine, there are likely turnstop bolts on your LCA's you can adjust.

So the alignment was good. And the dealerships explanation was that I has too large of tires and that I'm may have not rubbed at first because , " when you put on big heavy tires the truck will settle over time". Retards. So I heated up the fender with a heat gun and pushed the plastic back a little then tacked back the fender well a little with a screw. Easy fix, just wished I'd noticed that the fender well could have been moved back some before I went to all that headache, I was simply fixed on the part that was being rubbed and not the bigger part of the wheel well liner.

Why all this talk about poke? Thought the TRD rock warrior wheels were a direct e change for Tundra wheels a d that our 200s have the same offset and width as a Tundra. Plus, always good to keep the mud and flying rocks on the inside of the fender. Besides looks any other positive reasons to widen the stance that 5 hat the truck was designed with. Too many horror stories of failures with spacers to make me comfortable running them.

One of the main reasons I'm interested in the TRD wheels is that with the additional offset it allows more clearance for the upper control arm and KDSS bar etc.... It's all about clearance man;)

So there is an offset difference between standard Tundra wheels and the TRD? Hey I like the wheels as well. Just do not think I would install spacers.

I didn't install spacers and wouldn't either. I think they look and ride just fine and are kept within the wheel well. But it is my understanding that if I wanted them to fit on my 100 that they would need spacers for the front and you would consider putting them on the rear so the offset matched...but not an absolute requirement for mounting on the rear axel.

The TRD wheels come with a kit (well you actually have to buy the kit separate) which enable the lugs must etc

I am starting to look some options for my new to me 2011 LC.

I had 1.25" hub centric spacers inside and out on my 10 LC.

I thought they worked great, that was the first thing I did to my LX, and actually bought another set for my new to me 11 LC. That said I found out some bad news when I went to order my favorite tires for the LC, and the Bridgestone Dualler HL Alenza's have been discontinued and the new Alenza plus which I have on the LX and I am told replaced the regular Alenza, is not available in the 285/60/18 OEM size. I really liked that setup on my 10.

So I am now thinking either go with some TRD wheels and some sort of mild AT tire like maybe the BFG rugged terrains. Or maybe go aftermarket and use some XD wheels like these.

What are some of the pro's and cons to the TRD wheels vs aftermarket like shown above. I am guessing some companies offer after market wheels that are hub centric or sell the rings to make them function like they are Hub centric.

How does the RIM width compare on the OEM to the TRD wheels. I know someone mentioned you pickup about 10mm of offset. I am thinking that's really not enough to get them close to flush . My 1.25" spacers and OE wheels were very close to flush. Is the TRD wheel only sold in the +50 offset?

How is everyone liking there TRD wheels now that you have had them a while.

I don't have the trd wheels yet but I will be getting them soon. From what I heard they give you an additional 20mm of offset??? Some one with the trd' post up
A shot from the side to show where they line up with the fender, thanks

I like my TRD's. Utilizing a wheel on your Toyota that was made by Toyota is a plus in my book. Cosmetically the TRD's look great on the LC's (IMHO). If you're looking for more offset to make your wheel / tire combo stick out from the wheel well a bit further then you're probably going to be looking more at an after market wheel set. I've read many posts about spacers with lots of opinions being kicked around. I see the allure of them but have ZERO experience with spacers.

OEM's are 8" in width - 60mm offset - if I'm wrong on the OEM someone will call me out so no worries.
TRD'S - yes - 50mm offset is it on those....17" wheels - Width: 8", Offset: +50mm, Backspacing: 6.5", Hub Bore Diameter = 110mm

I have a 12.5" wide tire and it still tucks in the wheel well - not much but it's in there - if that helps you out.

There's a guy on here or was (might be like beetlejuice) by the screen name of OVERLAKE and you may want to search out his name and look at his wheel tire combo. I know he ran some 25mm offset and switched to a 18mm offset with some 325/65 or 60/18 (33's) and they stuck out a fair amount - that set up looked great.

I can only hope some of my rambling helps you in your search
Thanks

+30 offset with an 8" rim takes you flush with fenders. Any less offset or greater rim width takes you outside fenders.

Stock rims at + 60 sit 30mm inside fender panels. Obviously the profile of the tire is also important but not many tires sit outside the rim by much.

Billfish are your XDs hubcentric?
The one I posted a pic of above is the one I like. Looks similar to you wheels in your avatar, are they the same ? What size of tire are you running ?

Thanks for the Info.

Spacers That are hub centric, have proven fine for me, as long as properly installed.
There is some work involved, like multiple re-torqueing of them till firmly seated, to avoid any vibrations.

now tires. i liked the BFG but they aren't too good in the wet, the KO2's aren't out yet and won't be till march 2015 at least in the 285/70/17 size. so i can get the current KO's or Nittos in the Terra Grappler G2 or the new EXO grappler. thoughts?

I have the new Nitto EXO and they are awesome. E rated and snowflake rated. I live in Portland and they seem to handle the rain well. They do have a small hum to them... don't know if they are louder than my old BFG's or Duratracs, just different.

Here's a couple angles for you. Toyo AT2 LT.

I hereby suggest we officially change the thread title to "Official TRD Wheel Picture Thread"

@ray101381 Would you mind changing the title?
