I had TRD brake pads installed on all four corners of my 2009 LC and at that time the dealership turned the rotors. Within a week the brakes were vibrating and I could feel it through the steering wheel. I took the LC back to the dealership and they re-turned the rotors. I was told the rear brake rotors were the most out of spec. A few months pass and the brakes are vibrating again but this time I feel it through the brake pedal. Back to the dealership and I am told I might want to investigate getting better rotors.

I have been investigating possible causes and I found the rear LC brakes aren't vented. Could it be the TRD pads are creating more heat and the rear rotors aren't able to dissipate the heat fast enough? Anyone else have issues with the TRD pads? I am considering upgrading to the Stoptech rotors but would hate to spend the money and have the vibration back. Any other ideas?

never had issues with the stock pads or rotors (70,000 miles). but i know what kills rotors and drive accordingly.

I didn't have issues for the first 70,000 either but now I do...

I would have thought TRD would have tested the pads on the 200 series extensively which is why the current problems are a bit of a mystery.

I would make sure you don't have a stuck caliper that could be heating up the rotor. If not then I would get new OEM rotors. I am not a fan of having them turned and always had good luck with brand new OEM Toyota rotors on my vehicles. I doubt it's the pads.

dealer said my pads need to be replaced, i'm only at 45k miles. i was curious if the trd pads would be any better, or if i need to look elsewhere.

suggestions?

ggroot30, I have not had success with the TRD pads but it might just be my vehicle or something. I have replacement rotors and pads on order and everything should be upgraded next week. I am going to a two piece floating dimpled front set of rotors. Rears will be dimpled and slotted. I'll update once everything is installed.

Solid brake upgrade

Here are some pictures of the rotors in the boxes. The brakes are installed and they work really really well. I'll get some pictures of them installed once I have the truck cleaned up.

After six years and over 80,000 miles I'm replacing the brake rotors. I have been very impressed with the set up. I just replaced the rear pads, no turning. The front, I'm replacing the rotors while I work up a solution to turn the floating 2-piece rotors. Only lost 1mm after all those miles. These are the brakes that were developed for the SOCOM Non-Standard Combat Vehicle Contract. My LC200 isn't nearly the weight of an up armored variant but I'm pushing a lot more power.

Where did you get them? Can you share part numbers and manufacturer?

I just bought the remaining stock from the contract and have them listed in the for sale section.
Feel free to post a link. I can’t find your ad.

What’s the improvement over stock? Cold stopping distance improved? Better heat dissipation/less fade? Just no warping?

I've been running the TRD pads for the past 15k, great improvement in overall brake feel. Much better initial bite and they feel solid and linear. The stock pads were worn and had poor initial bite and had a gap between initial bite and a firm push where they kind of felt "floaty" like they just disengaged in the middle and you had to give them a hard shove to bite back down.

I put the TRD pads on around 98k I think, stock rotors, did not turn them just followed the bed in process. Zero squealing or vibration and I drive my truck hard, I'm standing on the brakes to the point of ABS intervention (High speed off road fun, not being a menace on the street) and towing frequently up and down the passes in CO.

@lgop Thanks for offering these!

Being used in a SOCOM application really ups the want factor for me personally, but I am having a hard time justifying the cost at 4x an OEM rotor. Do you have any data or technical sheets that demonstrate the performance and durability benefits?

I'm sure the Non-Stand Combat Vehicle program office has data but unfortunately I don't have access to it. Just personal experience. I like them so much I bought up the remaining inventory to offer them here. I fought brake rotors warping for months until I switched to these. Six years and finally replaced them. They only lost 1mm in width so I'm investigating having a fixture built to resurface them. PFC recommends the Wagner semi-metallic or Bosch severe duty pads.

Can anyone report in with TRD pads on a 2016+? Looking at replacing my pads asap and concerned with the new brakes although I guess they're just tundra TRD pads?

Ditto

I have them on my 2009 and I think they are the best brake pad for the vehicle. I debate on the rotors which one is the best but I don't think there is that much difference. In terms of brake feel, it feels like it stops faster with TRD pads vs stock pads to me. But it can all be in my head.
