Ok last rookie question: I've seen a couple setups running a ground cable from the aux back tot he primary negative terminal, and a couple running a ground to where the primary is grounded on the chassis or engine. Am I correct in assuming that that location is dependent on whether the ground from the primary battery negative terminal is capable of accommodating the draw placed on the aux battery?

It’s more about running an isolated DC to DC or not

So given that I'm running a ML-ACR smart setup (Blue Sea) with an isolator, which will presumably change the return path depending on which battery is charging, I need to have them share a ground? Does that logic sound like I'm understanding correctly?

It's also about the fact that the body of the truck might not be "perfectly" grounded to the chassis. Running a ground back to the battery, or to several points would ensure a better ground.

Better example

My bad, didn't see this follow-up. Definitely clearer, thank you. Looks like my wiring setup is actually indicative of a non-isolated, andt hat I had that logic backwards, but do require a common ground. Thanks man.
