here is a pic of a H1 with a single piece transfer case/transmission. There is not a breather on the transmission only the transfer case the arrow is pointing to it.

It breathes through the shift tower, which isn't sealed.

the poster has a split case, the breather is in a different place.

Oh, after making sure the breather was clear, my leak went from a puddle under the transfer case, after driving, to a few drops (3 or 4).
Still need to replace the seal again to eliminate the leak.
Thanks all for the advise.

Ok, so I made sure that the breather was clean (sprayed some WD40 and air, breather plug spins and goes up and down smoothly), could it still be blocked? I changed the front seal for the second time, went for a drive (about 15 miles, with 12 miles at highway speed) and notice a leak at back of the transfer, around where the speedo cable attaches. Was not leaking there before. Could this be the rear seal or are other possibilities there for it to leak. Took it for another spin, about the same as before (15 miles or so) and noticed that the newly replaced seal at the front was leaking again.
Couple of questions:
1. Could the breather still be clogged?
2. Is it possible to drop the transfer without dropping the tranny, or is it easier to do both at once?
3. Can I access the breather from the top, if I remove the access on top of the tranny? Should I just remove the breather and put in an extension hose to the firewall, up high?

Transfer is a split case, with a 4 speed.

Any suggestions.
Getting ready to order more seals and replace again, but want to make sure it does not blow the seals again.

By the way, this is not the first time I change a seal, but it is the first time I change one that start leaking (Twice) :(.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is your front output shaft from the transfer case smooth, or did it have a wear groove where the seal lip rides? I am surprised it is leaking out the front, especially if you did not have 4wd engaged during your test trip (meaning the front driveshaft was not spinning). Are you sure the leak is originating from the seal and not a gasket surface elsewhere on the transfer case or transmission?

Matt, thanks for the reply. I did not check for wear grooves, but did not see anything that called my attention. Will check when I get it off again. And no, the 4wd was not engaged. I'm sure it is coming from the front, as the rest of the transfer at the front was dry and I could see the drops coming form the flange. It also baffles me that the rear started leaking, not sure if its from the seal of the most rear gasket. I'm starting to think that the breather may still be plugged.

At this point I would try pulling the breather all the way off to check. There may be a small spring and ball/disc in there, so be careful.

Ok, so I pull the front seal back out, front shaft looks smooth. Pulled the breather out and it looks clean. Rear shaft (that includes the outer emergency drum housing) has a couple of grooves, but not too bad. Can you still buy these? Also, pulled the back cover where the speedo attaches, should I put in a new gasket here, or should the Toyota FIPG gasket paste work well here? And last question, should there be a seal of any sort where the speedo cable screws to the back housing? I did not see any washers or seals when I pull it out. Below is a photo of the rear shaft showing the grooves.

Thanks Nelson. Will order that speedi sleeve. Also, thanks Matt, pulled the vent cap and found something blocking the vent when I poked the hole with a wire. Hopefully that is what was making the transfer case leak. Ordering parts today. Did see that there is a seal for the speedo cable, will try to replace as well. Will let you know how it goes when it is all done.
Thanks

Well, got everything back together and the good news is that there are no more leaks from the seals. The bad news, it is still leaking, but not 100% sure from where, as the oil is all over the back of the transfer case. Could it be from the O' ring on the shaft? Is this something that can be changed without taking everything apart? Please see attached photo and figures 4-72, 4-73 from the manual.
Thanks

There are a lot of places it could be leaking from, but in many cases they are not the place the oil is dripping from. Clean the case with brake cleaner, dry and then dust it with corn starch all over. Then run it and look for tracks in the dust from where it is leaking.
Now that is a novel technique!!
