The weekend of August 17-19. I am leaning towards going Saturday morning and coming back Sunday.

This weekend won't interfere with the UC event at Tellico, in case anyone is going.

I hope someone who's been up there before can make it as well. Let me just say that orienteering isn't my strongest suit, I failed that at NCO school. ;)

I'd be up for this exploration and that weekend looks OK as of now.

Where did you have in mind specifically? There are lots of places to check out.

I am thinking I should be able to attend this one as well; really depends on how the 40 does on here mayden voyage at Tellico the weekend before.........

Just to throw this out there..... there is a trail Andy and I have been meaing to check out for a while right off of I-40 about 30mins west of Asheville called hurricane creek I beleive it is roughly 5 miles long and has multiple stream crossings. I know it can be done by stock cruisers as well ..........

hope I can join you guys

Yep, right in the Harmon Den area, just past the Waynesville Welcome Center. From there we can check out a bunch of other old jeep trails shown on the Gazetteer and eventually find a place to camp Sat. night.

Richland Gap is always an option too...

Either way, it sounds like a blast!

That sounds like a plan to me! There are a few other trails in the Gazetteer I'd like to check out in that area as well..........

What mapping software are you guys using for NC? I run Oziexplorer but don't have any maps for NC loaded on my laptop. Anybody else in NC using Oziexplorer or some other type of mapping software(national geo or Delorme??). If I can make this run I would like to get some maps loaded for the area.

Anybody know where to find old logging maps for NC Mtns?

Tim

So in making final plans for this weekend, who all will be going? from what parts or the state? anyone going to caravan thats close to others going? Where might everyone meet?

I thought it was the weekend of the 18-19? Please confirm.

Tim

18-19 was what I understood as well....... I should be able to make if you guys run the harmon den/ hurricane creek trails near waynesville

I doubt we'll be going. It's just too far to trailer the 40 - I'll be staying home and wrapping up the rear tire carrier and building a front bumper. I really would like to go.

Yes the weekend of 17-19, and I am heading out from Cary. I can leave Friday night or Saturday morning. I have no ideas about camping or anything, although I have identified a few areas I'd like to check out.

If someone knows that general area and where we can meet up, that'd be great.

And I will reiterate: you don't want me leading/navigating. :)

Thanks for the offer Greg, but I think I am going to have to pass. If it was the following weekend, maybe. I was out of town last weekend, and we are leaving for Charlotte in the morning, so I will have to get some work done around the house here next weekend. My yard is looking like a jungle, plus, I need some time to finish my bumpers :)

Anyone want to do a URE day trip or 1 night camping that next weekend 8/25 ?
