Wow, that turned out nice. It looks like barn door tailgate and side opening lid. Look forward to seeing it in person. :steer:

Actually, the tailgate is hinged at the bottom - went round and round on that. Of course, more room means everybody wants to bring more crappy!

It tows great - don't even know its back there. We made it to shoshone tonight and had a heavy rain shower and everything stayed dry inside.

But here's the problem - my mileage is HORRIBLE even by 80 series standards. 8.5 to 9 mpg :( typically get 14 to 16 on the highway. We're kind of heavy, but not pushing it hard ... I don't think its all the trailer.

Off to do some reading in the 80 series forum for as long as my battery holds...

Driving into the wind? Last long trip I took I had to go headlong into some bad wind and it wrecked my mileage. That trailer looks pretty big, take it and have it weighed. I'm betting you'll lose 1 MPG for about every 350 pounds or so you add. 10 MPG in a loaded 80 pulling a trailer sounds about right to me. Time for a supercharger!

The trailer is on a M416 frame. I get way better mileage than that (relatively) with my M416. Strong headwinds fully loaded 80 and trailer the worst I ever got was about 11, certainly not 9-10. Eric and I have gotten about the same mileage the last couple of long road trips we have done together. Generally I can get 13 or so. Check tire pressure as well.

Here's another shot at the top of Togwotee pass - its really not that big. Tried wrapping some duct tape around the corrugated part of the air intake pipe - remember hearing about leaks there causing mpg issues. Since the I got 12.75 on a small partial tank and 10.25 on a full tank - but the driving has been different - slower & steeper, some traffic.

Well there's your mileage problem. You have a trailer AND the roof rack stacked. I thought the trailer was going to get stuff off the roof ;)

Dang it, after seeing that picture, I am really in the mood for an expo trip!!

Yea, tell me about it ... I was busy finishing the trailer while everybody else packed the kitchen sinks. Need to have a packing review board next time. Yard sale in the Old Faithful parking lot tomorrow!

But that's a lot less then was on.the roof on the way back from Utah in March.
