I wanted to share a few pictures of trail tailors upper LCA skid plates. This past 6 months I ran the rubicon and the dusy ershim and I would say that these little beefy brackets did their job nicely. Saved my frame. I am a big fan of Jason @TRAIL TAILOR. I purchase alot of stuff for my customers from him and always excellent customer service and just a great guy to deal with.

Are those large screws fastening to upper end to the factory bracket?

yes the brackets come with self tapping bolts, you can plug weld or use the bolts. I decided to use the bolts as eventually I will need to swap these out again for another non beaten pair

I went to his site and checked them out. Everything he offers is listed as Sold Out. I would think that those guards should last the average 80 owner forever. I’ll take your old ones when you go down that road.

This is a great frame saving attachment without a doubt. My question is that the factory bolt sits inside a recessed space as shown below. Are the new hardware being torqued to the same OEM spec? Also, the new hardware is squeezing something entirely different from the OEM hardware and I'd like to hear some thoughts on this.

yes I torqued them to oem spec, what is your concern? I have tested them extensively with no issues....

I think the concern is that the torque of the bolt is being applied to the TT bracket and not to the LCA bracket where the recessed part for the bolt head and nut normally sit on in the OEM configuration. Basically putting maybe putting limited tension on the bushing sleeve.

Not sure if that would cause any problems with anything.

This was brought up a few years back with the 100/200 guys and after 400+ sets sold worldwide, no issues with slop in the arm or pre-mature bush failures to my knowledge or been brought up on the forums.

The bolt/torque squeezes the skid bracket and LRA frame mount and secures the bush as normal.

Sounds good. Thank you for the information setting it straight.

Good info, thanks!

I just ordered myself a set of these. @TRAIL TAILOR do you recommend welded or bolted installation? I have a welder and I assumed I was going to plug weld the holes and then put a couple stiches on the sides and top, but maybe that's overkill and I should just bolt them? Or just plug weld the holes?

If you plan to hard wheel in the rocks; I would stitch weld the upper edges and outer sides (1/2-3/4" to easy cut off if needed). Otherwise the upper edge bolts will serve you well.

Thanks for the order and they ship tomorrow.
