Find out what the insurance co. will give you for it.

Argue with them until they give you a fair price

get the check less what they want for salvage and keep the truck

Buy a new one and transfer over your stuff then sell the rest OR

Buy a new dd. SAS the mashed one and wheel the wee out of it. Anything "ripped open" can be welded shut. We have the technology.

OR find out what they want for salvage and let me buy the wreck and I'll do one of the above with it.

I can just imagine right now, darrel melting down...."darreling down" Dude this kind of crap is usually a good thing. Its the reason you've paid 10's of thousands of dollars to insurance companies. Take a breath and use your imagination! They said they would total but didnt tell you for how much??

Ditto to what Todd said. Especially if the frame is not so much bent but ripped that is a good thing as far as an SAS.
(starting chant) sas,sas,sas
sas,sas,sas

I echo Todds statements...

This is a good thing.

You're not hurt, the truck is still 99% the same truck you love, & you're going to get $$$$.

The insurance co. I delt with only deducted $300.00 from the "totaled" price if I kept the truck. Which was "junk" price for a complete vehicle @ that time.

Here are a couple pics the insurance guy got of the frame.

They gave me their offer and are getting back to me on what the buyback cost would be. I need to make some decisions, their offer would be enough to hypothetically move on. Now I have to weigh the cost of buying somebody's already built rig(I love mini trucks like Tonys old one) vs. the cost of sas. I am going to assume that it would be at least 4k to sas, so I wonder what I could get for comparable $$$'s.

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with thought - cascading in a waterfall of creative alternatives.

There's a rig for sale over on the Iowa side.

4g for a SAS? I guess I'm glad I started solid.

I would have to think by the time it's all said and done it's gotta be at least 4K? IFS eliminator kit and just the front axle would be around 2K alone. My garage would not have the space to do this task so I would have call on the help of my friends, which would also be $$$. Then lifting and regearing the rear and at that point I would need bigger tires, along with transfer case decisions. So, yeah I'm thinking that 4k mark isn't too far off, maybe I am wrong.

And that is if Todd and John would even want to help me with build?

For 4K you could probably find a decent locked 80?

I have enough mini rear springs to build springs for the front and enough of the 3 1/2" square tube for the 63" chevy front mounts. Junk yard chevies shouldn't cost more than $100 or so.
There yours if you go that route.

I have a front Dana 44 that came out of a late 70s Jeep Cherokee. Already 6 lug. I think the diff is on the drivers side. I gave $100 for it- you can have it for $100, if it helps you.

Luke

I was thinking the same. What does the eliminator kit really have? all you need is some square tubing for mounts right? junk yard axle or built yota with RUF and 63's in the rear. I just did 63's for about $100. Already got the box for crrossover, just need the links and arms...

....don't know you or your rig though, just seems like 4g is high, but you may be running 42's for all I know and you may need a set of 1 tons. I am just considering the limits of the IFS you had and the fact that you still drove it on the road.

I don't know you, but I'll lend a hand if you have beer and a warm shop.

The cheap route:

Front:

d44 (assuming it doesnt need new brakes, bearings, seals, and keep the weak ass shafts)
front locker
front gears
front setup kit
front setup labor
whatever steering arms ot links he needs.
front shocks
front break lines
steering stabilizer
spring hanger
shackle mounts
spring perches
u-bolts
shock hoops
bump stops
new pinion flange
springs
bushings
IFS steering box
IFS steering box mount

Rear:

Springs
bushings
shocks
gears
setup kit
setup labor
hangers
perches
shackle mount
shackles

35-37" tires no beadlocks

And alot of work in a drive way, in the winter, near wisconsin, and trying to get your buddies to drive over an hour one way to fab in a drive way in january.

Thats just off the top of my head. It may seem overly thorough and anal, but anyone that has done a sas knows that the little things kill you.

oh BTW im not really in favor of a sas anymore. and the money reason isnt even the real reason im not in favor anymore
