I have been reading all the articles I can find about swapping in an older(86.5-92) Supra LSD into a V6 Rear housing etc...
All the articles I find seem to re-use the 4.88's. Is it because that's what the Supra comes with, or that's what their 3rd's had in them already? not sure. I am wondering if this same swap can be done with any gears? I am getting a couple of V6 rears with 4.56 gears and was hoping that I could still just swap in the LSD and be done. They make mention to re-using the "thinner" 4.88 gears, is this the reason the use them or just because 4.88's are lower and what they wanted? I'm pretty sure this is a go, but any input would be appreciated.

Yes, the stock 4.88 gears came in a different differential houseing than the 4.10, 4.30, 4.56... I'm not to familiar with this swap, but if all you've read has been about the 4.88, it may not work with the other gears...

I just found this one and I'm hoping it's right. The 4.88's seem to be harder to find than the 4.56's. As I'm only really going to run 33's, I think that 4.56's should be ok. But that being said, If I can track down a couple of V6 centre's with 4.88's then sure I'll go that way. Anyone else gone this route?

I guess the main point is that whatever housing I use, it has to be a V6/4 Pinion Housing. The gears just swap onto the new differential. So, if I can find 4.88's then great, but they don't seem to be too plentiful. My plan was just to get a set of them, 4.56 seem more common, that way I don't have to swap the pinion just move the ring gear. Oh and the supras came with 3.73's I believe.

I think you are going to be greatly disappointed in a LSD while wheeling...I had one in my hilux from the factory with 4.30 gears and took it out. It doesn't really help that much compared to a lock-rite. I'll make you a hell of a deal on the pair of 4.30 gears...
