I am running a H-55 in my 40 with a split case (granted I am also running a sb350) My shifter comes out of the stock hole. and all fits nicely in the frame, There are two different top plates one for a 40 and the other one, anyone in a forty needs the "other" one. It has the shifter hole farther back.

I guess that does not really coincide with the picture that John posted up, or the other information that has been listed.

Are you talking about what worked for your small block swap?

I'm in the process of installing and H55 in my FJ-55. Slightly different, but I had a couple of similar considerations. The parking brake issue was my biggest concern. I thought about using a 70 series rearend with parking brake on the axle, but after talking with Marv I was convinced otherwise. He says the Aussies don't like the parking brake on the axle due to the excessive linkage and it's proclivity to failing. I ended up buying a parking brake kit instead. ( Not from SOR)

Landpimps shift plate is pretty sweet, but I think you would still need to modify your hump for the transfer case shifter. Did you do that Landpimp?

Lastly, I sell NIB H55's. If you are in California, I can deliver up to the Pismo Surf'n'turf to avoid shipping fees. You can see the transmissions here:

nope my top plate is sitting on the shelf, I might not ever use it, I really have no need for the H55F in my 82 fj40.......but I might be using it for something.....sometime.

my 82 has the split case already(as well as parking brake on rear axle) so it might just fit correct without cutting

Whose kit is that?

I along with many others on this site can you that kit. It's an aftermarket kit, using a toyota output shaft. PM me if you're interested, it's a bit pricy, but I use it over a 70 rearend....

I think quite the opposite, I love my axle mounted brakes, and they are way easier to maintain than a TC mounted kit too. I simply un-bolted my backing plates from my SF 60 housing and bolted them to the FF 60 housing... never looked back. I have run several of the TC kits, and sold many of them too, they work great, but not for the money and the availability of late model FJ40 housings (no need for a 70 housing)...

Anyone need a late model FJ40 housing? Ready for a axle park brake? :D

Kurt- I'd like to see your setup. Don't completely understand it, but it sounds interesting. Do you have pics?

I will try and remember to grab some pics, but it is simply the 79' & later OEM setup for 40,60,62 etc. The full float and semi-floats use the same setup... As far as a cable, I used a FJ60 setup (including the floor lever) as I prefer it there than on the dash, cable is the OME 60 stuff (same as late model 40 stuff other than length).

How much?

$50 + shipping, just a bare housing, get a donor 60 axle go to town. Otherwise, I can round up all the backing plate parts you will need (backing plate and a little bit of hardware), other than that you need a SINGLE (way better than dual system) wheel cylinder, a set of brake shoes and a hardware kit. Your golden :D
