A thought occurs, I wonder if the OEM soft side walls negatively affected you towing experience @Canyonero?

I've noticed they are super soft compared to the lateral stiffness of my KO2s on my 200; granted LT tires vs passenger tires.

This definitely plays a role. When I was towing slow on my land, the tires were wildly compressed just going over normal bumps when the trailer was attached.

I do think a tire upgrade would help with the floatiness, and if someone is towing heavy, they really need to crank the WDH hard to distribute the load.

Honestly, the transmission tuning (lack thereof) and lack of cruise control are in the top 3 for me with gripes.

I do love the truck though. It has a charm that’s hard to explain.

It’s good to know about the towing. Sometimes I trailer the M3 to track and the TRX does just fine with almost 6000 lbs. Was thinking of using the LX but this kind of feedback makes me rethink that haha.

Just did a bit of towing with a 2000 lb load with a utility trailer. Got it up to highway speeds both in the freeway and on bumpy back roads, was completely and utterly stable, auto leveling feature worked nicely.

Have the 5000lb boat to tow next week, will report back.

If you do tow with the LX, I’d be interested to hear how it compares to your TRX. I do have a F150 raptor with the factory 37” tire package, and for me those towing differences are eye-opening.

I tow a somewhat similar weight with an LX570, so I don't have a direct horse in this race, but I've got to ask: did you actually look at the vehicle before buying it?

Not having a "tow mode," not having a dozen nanny lights reminding you that you're towing (I mean... really?), placement of the 7 pin hookup, etc... not a single one of those things should be a surprise to you. I can sorta understand the transmission gripes, but it also sounds like they're all addressed with manual shifting on the rare, steep uphill/downhill sections. And who actually tows in "D"? I sure as heck never do, and don't understand the big deal here.

Stability issues at 70mph? That I can't speak to, but my LX570 (with ~6000lb behind it) is stable even at 80mph, not that I want to tow at that speed.

It really sounds like you wanted the 3/4 or 1 ton experience (and all the accompanying towing nannies) in a Lexus SUV, and are surprised you don't have them. Bizarre gripes IMO.

Re-read the thread title. This information is clearly not for you.

You may place your head safely back into the sand from whence it came.

If you think calling out your silly whining re: lack of towing mode and location of the 7-pin connector is apologizing for Toyota, then you should strongly re-evaluate who has their head in the sand.

It’s interesting that you would take the time just to point the finger at me here. This thread isn’t about me.

I will say, this is a classic apologist approach. Nicely done!

The issue can’t possibly be with the vehicle itself, the issue is with the consumer raising the issue.

Nearly all the comments on this thread have tried to add value in their own way or have expressed appreciation for this info.

If this information is dismissed out of hand by you, feel free to move along.

Whether I or any other buyer could discover some of these issues prior to buying is irrelevant. That is not a fact that changes the objectively stated deficiencies with the vehicle.

I’m offering up objective information, and many people would be quite surprised to know how badly phoned in the towing experience is at 7k lbs.

If you don’t think those examples are worthy of your time, take your little LX570 and move along.

The vast majority of what you're whining about are not "objectively stated deficiencies," no matter how hard you try to sound smart. They are basic, functional options of the vehicle, which you overlooked when making a purchase. These options are far from great, but they are not a surprise to anyone with a functioning head, and are not even remotely valid criticism.

In your other thread, where you sing praises to the same vehicle's off-road ability, you clearly stated that you bought the vehicle on a whim, right after getting a call from your dealer. That right there is the problem: you made an emotional purchase without doing proper research into the vehicle, the honeymoon phase has passed, and buyer's regret has set in. None of that is a problem with the vehicle; it's a problem with your ignorant expectations.

Ha! This is great.

Double down on attacking me, to deflect from glaring deficiencies with the vehicle.

Love it. It almost feels scripted!

Let’s assume for a minute I’m the dumbest person on planet earth. Complete knuckle dragger who walked into a dealership and plunked down $120,000 because I’m just emotional and I thought it was pretty.

If I grant you that, it changes nothing about the glaring deficiencies with the vehicle when it comes to towing.

You should reread my first post in this thread.

There are so many things about this vehicle that even the most eyes wide open purchaser could simply not know until it’s too late.

It’s unlikely someone’s gonna hook up their 7000 pound travel trailer and tow through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado before purchasing.

The deficiencies are in fact objective, no matter how you try to spin it otherwise. The LX 700 does not exist in a vacuum. It competes with other vehicles in the same class, that claim similar towing abilities.

The fact that Toyota could not care less about making the vehicle competitive or even Safe as a tow vehicle, identifies some key attributes that would-be buyers definitely want to know about.

Back to topic.

I towed my jetski yesterday, the weight is none issue but one annoying thing is that you still have to manually turn off the Parking Support Brake or else it will auto-brake when you're reversing (unless I'm missing some settings that i don'tknow about). I know it's only a 4pin connector, but i was hoping it's smart enough to know that a 4pin is connected and it should automatically turn that feature off.

The LX may not exist in a vacuum, but a vacuum certainly exists inside your head.

I'm beginning to see why you were the first phone call for your dealership; they do love guys like you. Emotional, eager to post "me first me first" threads on whatever forums, and zero understanding of what they're buying. Spoiler: you're not the authoritative figure you pretend to be.

The 7 pin connector location is perfectly acceptable to me.

The lack of R&D on some things like transmission tuning is annoying.

I dont remember the reverse emergency braking issue when towing the couple times I did tow. About 3,500 lbs and it actually did just fine for me.

Needs heavier weight oil in the front suspension.

Do you even own a 600/700?

It's not a great location, but it works. I actually relocated the plug (on my LX570) into my bumper cover via a simple extension. Ugly as sin, but I tow often enough for this to make sense.

Nope. I also don't have a helicopter pilot's license, but if I see a chopper sitting in a tree, rest assured I'll confidently say that someone ****ed up.
