Any reason you wouldn't want to mount the spare tire carrier to the trailer frame and not have to try and reinforce the trailer to tub? Keep the spare tire carrier independent of the trailer tailgate.

I'm looking at under mount options too. Just feels like a bad spot for it (to me) for some reason.
Never had a problem with mine. Mine sits in front of the axle and about 2" behind the leg stand.

I stole the spare carrier from underneath that Grand Wagoneer and rigged it up under the frame. Several shots...

Since the tongue on mine has water and gas it's heavy so mine being under the rear is best for my trailer it's never hit anything.
Ron mine wobbled too until I put a ratchet strap across it
