Hello, I'm Bil Sines. I live in KCKS and just bought a '97 toyota 4runner limited. The idea is that next month I'm going to drive it to Panama, Panama. I've sunk some cash into it and would love advice about travel in Mexico and Latin America and mods for such a trip. I'm 62 yrs old and have been to Panama a lot with some offroad in rentals. I'd love to meet some experts and get some advice. I live with my truelove and her golden retriever. Neither of whom are going along.

Welcome Bob. I have never done anything like you are planning, but it sounds cool. You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.

Hey folks! I'm John Breth, and I live in Overland Park, KS. I've had a 2004 100 series Land Cruiser for about 4 years. It's "bone stock" with about 250K well cared for miles. I'm the second owner. I have very little mechanical ability, but I'm directable and willing to buy good beer!

I plan to slowly add some mods to make the cruiser an expedition vehicle. I have no plans to rock crawl with this one...maybe down the road with something else.

I look forward to meeting everyone at Tac and learning the ins and outs of 4 wheeling and maintaining my cruiser. Thanks!

Hi John!

I'm near 131st and Pflumm. I'm just an 80 guy at this time. Mostly a Mall Crawler due to time constraints.

Hmm, anyone claim the tannish gray LX450 that was at KC Trends over lunch today? Had a lift, snorkel, aftermarket bumper. I think it’s the one I’ve seen around this area (135th and Antioch) a few times.

Oops, apologies. My phone gets a little carried away. Anyone know how to delete duplicate messages?

That was @BigRedOne75 . he was getting his a rebalance today. His office is nearby.

Nice. The name is deceiving.. I would have expected a big red one. Very cool 80
Yup. Me. This name continues to confuse. Thinking of a makeover.

Hi, I am new to FJ's, and new to the site. I have a 68 (I think) and 72 FJ40 and that need a lot of TLC. I am limited on knowledge and tools, but I got the 72 running and driving, but need some help with brakes and electrical. The 68 will turn over, but haven't been able to spend the time to get it running yet.

Any advice or leads to a shop, or person, that specializes in these older cruisers would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Where in Kansas City? and you have options with Brakes.. Cheap or Good and they don't really both work at the same time. Some of us have more knowledge in the old tech and some of the members here know more new tech.
Your 68 most likely is Pre booster and a single master cylinder with one line that goes to all 4 wheels, 2 wheel cylinders per wheel. that is a total of 16 seals that may kill you if one were to fail. The 72 most likey has a dual piston master cylinder and a booster. and the same # of seals that can fail but not kill you as only front or rear will fail at one time.
I would start with which truck you want to get going safely first.

I live in Blue Springs. From some of the items in the forums it looks like I can buy a bracket to attach calipers, or replace everything down to the spindle. The 72 has sentimental value to I am going to keep it, but the 68 is a bonus vehicle that is not in as good of shape as the 72. The PO has actually added disk brakes to the 68, and I don't see a bracket so I am assuming full hub replacement? I was thinking about using the 68 as a partial parts vehicle, then selling anything else, or just sell the 68 and purchase what is needed?

There are almost too many options, like paint colors at Sherwin Williams...I just wanted white.....

you sir. are in luck. you just might not know that yet.. I will PM you with my cell #. Perhaps you might be interested in an educational opportunity on what you have, how to get where you want to be with this truck or any in the future. I have been known to tinker on a LandCruiser or two in my time. My initial consultant fee is a few beers. I do prefer that clients share in the consultant fee. I am also in Blue Springs on the North Side. I have been known to pay the initial consultant fee out of my fridge in the garage but do ask that withdraws be supplemented with proper deposits back into the fridge.
I most likely will be doing yard work Saturday and possibly some Sunday so I should be mostly free.
I won't have a ton of time to dedicate but I am sure i can spare enough time to go thru a few beers.
Is your Mother given name "Birk".. Mine is Erik. and I am a Cruiser Addict and i have lots of problems that many in this forum would be happy to point out.. (thought i should just toss that in there)
