Look what we found in the garage! Back in 1978 we bought a brand new FJ40 and kept it until 1998. Dumb us sold it to buy a new pickup. How stupid can you get!

So, the wife decided she needed a 65th birthday present. Over the last several months I've caught her looking at FJ40s on eBay. Having been married since 1974 I could tell this was more than just a casual itch. About 6 weeks ago I joined the search. I found a 1982 honey on Craigs List that had been listed for only a couple of hours. The owner sent me a bunch of photographs that I uploaded to an album. Check out the photographs. I was fully restored and painted in 2000 and purchased by the current owner in 2006. He has never off roaded. Claims it is 95% rust free. He appears to be telling the truth. If the mechanicals are as good as the cosmetics, we stole this critter. It has 106K miles. He put shocks and a clutch in it. He says is needs a brake power booster rebuild.

We go for the final inspection on the 31st.

I started looking in the garage and ran across this jack and tools that made the trip through time. The current owner says the original jack is in the Cruiser but not the tools. I'll probably sell this jack to help finance a tool kit off eBay.

I'd be interested to hear how the purchase works out, and more details on price, etc, once it's a done deal.

Liked the description about what you can put in the tool box.....six gun.

Anybody know if this lamp holder came with the little hook that's beside it? It's from my 81 bj60 or my 78. Been hanging on garage wall for 25yrs lol

Toyota Inspection Lamp - 4Runner/Hilux Version

Toyota included inspection lamps of a different design in other vehicles. This version came with certain 4Runner SR5/SRT models and Hilux SR5 models. Part number 81370-89101, listed on amayama.com at $42.19.

For information about Land Cruiser inspection lamps, see post #38 and post #74 in this thread.

I Found This late Model Toyota Factory Inspection lamp under The Rear back Jump seat of a Global Spec. 1/83 FJ43L-KC .

the seat had not been lifted in years & the Lamp , pouch & cord all seamed stuck in a time capsule ?

The Bulb was still the original JDM brand from factory

the Inspection Lamp socket on glove box has round the hole or groove for the plug on the lamp .....TAKARIKA brand TR Socket

It Seam Possible that is was a shared Accessory or Tool / Work / Inspection item of various Solid Axle Toyota Vehicles

That is a puzzler. I did general research on that inspection light a while back, and looked closer at FJ43s today. For the online epc, toyodiy and other Toyota parts sites, was unable to find any reference to the 81370-89101 inspection light being used on FJ43s in any market. Also checked the associated socket, 81402-89101, but no FJ43 or Land Cruiser hits either.

The dates and markets where -89101 was used don't seem to fit with a 1/83 FJ43. For the Hilux, toyodiy says starting 12/87 for SR5 models for Europe and General markets. For 4Runner, starting 8/83 for US/Canada.

But I've found inconsistencies in online parts info in the past, so would not consider any of this 100% definitive.

As you know, the plug on the -89101 light has a round, plastic prong in the center. So it needs it's own socket. The normal FJ40 socket, 81402-29016 does not work for this light since it only has two holes. Seems odd that someone would go to the trouble of replacing the standard socket to use this light, when the standard inspection lamp, 81370-60010 has always been available.

It is certainly not unusual for there to be exceptions when it comes to Toyota parts, perhaps this is one of those situations.

Toyota Wrench Clips

Land Cruiser tool kits all contained wrench sets. The wrenches in each set were held by a metal or plastic wrench clip.

Although not a critical component of a kit, wrench clips are often that last, missing piece necessary to complete a vintage tool kit.

Land Cruiser tool kits through 1983 were supplied with one of these four wrench clips.

Large Tool Rolls

Early large tool rolls (through 1963) included 6 oval handle TOYOTA TEQ MOTOR wrenches.

Later large tool rolls (1964-69) had 6 recessed handle TOYOTA TEQ MOTOR wrenches.

These sets used the same TEQ, blue metal wrench clip.

The wrenches and clip were manufactured by Kyoto Tool Company (KTC). The KTC logo and patent mark are on the back of the clip, M.PAT. NO. 422209.

Medium Tool Rolls

Both canvas and vinyl medium tool rolls included 5 recessed or raised handle TOYOTA MOTOR wrenches. The medium rolls used the unmarked, blue metal wrench clip.

The back of this clip also has the KTC logo and the same patent mark as the earlier clip.

Although similar in appearance to the TEQ wrench clip, the later clip is slightly shorter, and not designed to hold more than 5 wrenches.

Metal Wrench Clip Design

The clip has a spring base to secure the wrenches, even when the clip is open.

Zipper Bag Tool Kits

Zipper bag tool kits included 2 wrenches held by either a yellow or red plastic wrench clip.

The Nickel Chrome Vanadium wrenches provided in the early (1972-79) kits used the yellow clip.

Special alloy wrenches (1979-83) used the red clip.

The clips are identical except for the color.

Using the Plastic Wrench Clips

To remove the wrenches from the clip, rotate both wrenches 90° so the raised wrench handles are parallel to the base of the wrench clip. Remove the wrenches individually from the clip. To secure the wrenches in the clip, reverse the process.

Other Toyota Tool Kits

Kits for other Toyota vehicles typically included 3 wrenches. A variety of metal and plastic clips were used.

Wrench Clip Terminology

These clips go by a variety of names: wrench clip, wrench holder, spanner holder. Japanese advertisements for wrench clips may include the term “supanahoruda” i.e., spanner holder.

Other than a lower hinge location and missing spring base, this early Wrench Clip looks quite similar to the KTC design.

Can you recommend a replacement for, or something to use in place of, the red or yellow wrench clip which I assume are no longer available?

Thanks!
Pete

The red and yellow 2-wrench clips are difficult to find. The 3-wrench clips, red or yellow, are easier to find, since they came with Corolla and Corona kits. 3-wrench clips don't work with just 2 wrenches, 3 are needed to hold securely.

I've looked for lipped, plastic u-channel as a replacement, but have not found anything that resembles the Toyota wrench clips. Seems like these shouldn't be difficult to replicate, but am not aware of anyone doing so.

Thanks wscbill. I'm not looking for a perfect restoration, just something to keep the 2 end wrenches together so I'll get something together. Maybe bend some metal into shape and put it in some rubber shrink tubing.

Or maybe @Racer65 may consider reproducing?

Could these be reproduced with a 3D printer?

Where can you buy one of the KTC wrench clips? I have looked on Rakuten but it says the store can’t ship directly to the US. Also have you found anywhere you can get the OH hammers? Thanks.
