I have recently bought my first landcruiser a 1966 fj40 with a 78 hard top and have been sanding the hell out of it. It is finally looking like it is close to being ready for paint but i can not decide on a color to paint it. I am open to all sugestions and pics will be very helpfull aswell. Thanks in advance.

keep it primer gray for life. it's the only way to go.
especially if one of your half doors is a different color gray, then you're set....
every one will tell you to paint it mustard yellow or freeborn red. do that, and be like every other guy who's restored a cruiser.
or you could just go to the paint shop and look thru the GM or Ford books and pick out something cheap and nice that you like.
also, check out the color codes page at www.coolcruisers.com if you'd like to stay relatively stock.
me, i'm goin for the baby-ish sky blue that was stock on my 72 or clemson orange

Where are you and where do you wheel? If you are a hotshot rock crawler use a loud obnoxious color to bring attention to yourself. Just kidding, said that for the benefit of someone else whom I hope reads this. Anyway I think color is too much a personal preferance thing but I would say the Mustard is the most cruiseresque of all the stock colors. I went with the original green on my '74 because I like the way it blends in here in the mountains and doesn't look out of place in the desert.

Thanks for the fast replies! I live in arizona and am going to be using my cruiser for getting to and from school. fishing. hunting. and the most inportant part showing my friends who is boss on the trails. Right now my cruiser has 31 inch bfg mud terrains but i am hopefully soon going to go with a 4inch lift and some 33 inch tsl's. I am not planing on keeping it stock color either. Keep the replies coming!

that's kinda funny that an american flag is painted on a japanese vehicle, just kidding, that's a sweet paint job. i'd say go with freeborn red, olive brown, or any shade of beige. maybe even "john deere green" (what it's called according to ccot) if you want a color that stands out.

I saw two colors that struck my eye and would look good on cruisers. one cruiser owned by the dude down the street is painted an amber gold color, it looks sick. if i get one that needs a paintjob i am going to go with the light green used on all us forest service trucks. its unique, and classy.

do a search for colors first thing, as its probably one of the most popular threads out there 
also try searching the word landpimp to see a wide variety of colors available
search the web for 70 series, theres some sites from venezeula and other places that have some good pictures of landcruisers that we didnt get and color choices that werent offered here. to get an idea of some alternate stock colors you could go with.

Paint
I took the opportunity to repaint my 'cruiser a couple years ago, and decided to rattle-can it in a color I liked, with paint that I could get easily at places near my house. I used rustoleum in gloss white. White because of personal preference, Rustoleum because I can get it easily in rattle can or pints (for touch-ups), at Home Depot, or any of the other local hardware stores.
I have some runs and drips that I'm not real proud of, but I have already done numerous touch ups, and I don't think it'll end up being as bad off as it was before I repainted it, no matter how often I mess it up off road and redo it. I get comments or questions almost every time I drive it in traffic, which I never did when it was crap brown and flat black, and it's not becasue I drive badly!
