Looks like the last weekend of July is going to be the one to work out for me if that's good with everyone

August 25, 2012 Raffle Truck work day

A little more progress today on the body work; forgot to take the camera so sorry, there are no pictures!

We removed the last levers/switches/buttons on the dashboard, and we patched some smaller-than-dime size holes in the floor panels. Did some rust-removal on other parts, and applied a coat of rust-inhibitor to the underside of the tub.

 to Jon, Steve, Jim, and Tom.

August Work Day

Actually, there was a pic taken.

Steve and James posing with their handiwork (not pictured are Tom, Tracy and yours truely)...got everything but the doors and hardtop in primer and ready for a quick wet sand and paint. Thanks guys.

9 September 2012

Steve and I applied Durabak truck-bed liner to the underside of the FJ40 body tub. Two good thick coats and it is well covered; should be some good protection for the underside.

sure do Bart

I sent the title to Jon via certified mail last week. I am not sure I have his correct email address, I have a couple of them. Jon please post up if you got the title, OK?

I scanned everything into PDF before I sent it. There should also be registration and some non-op statement too.

Got it, thanks Jeff!

Both transfer cases have wear on the idler shaft. Not sure if these are trash or usable. The one shaft has wear on both bearing surfaces on opposite sides. The other shaft only has wear on one side. And hopefully you can see the ridge due to wear. Both idler gear assemblies passed the feeler gauge test and the thrust washers looked fine.

So the thrust washers may be out of spec after all. Check out the updated spec numbers in the later FSM on the left. I did some research and it looks like the idler shaft wear is quite common and that Toyota doesn't sell the idler shaft any longer... So does anyone have a good idler shaft they will donate to the cause? We are going to need new roller bearings also. Do we want to just rebuild this with all new bearings?

John,

I've got a used idler shaft that is in better than those and also have the idler bearings that came out of the t-case. I can get them out to you in the mail monday morning unless there is some place we can meet up on monday. Just started a new project 2 blocks from the zoo.

Tom

FYI the bearings that I have are the ones that were on the shaft. Not new ones. I noticed that Specter sells used shafts and bearings
