Since Charla suckered me into the TLCA BOD, I keep getting all these emails, and I just got a recent one bringing up that the TLCA is dying, we need to include everyone, non-cruisers like the 4-runners and FJ cruisers by changing the name to Toyota 4WD A. well I started responding, but then my email started sounding wierd, but then I got tired of typing and actually making sence, so here it is, you can sorta notice me slipping half way through. I just figure I shouldn't post this with the BOD, because it is only my opinion and not the PCSD peoples that I represent, so let me know your views:

Better yet I heard Mexico wants to be a part of the United States. Now instead of letting them illegally imigrate and turn a blind eye to it, lets remove the border, all blend together and rename the US: Mexi States. That will keep all the mexicans happy and we will all live happily ever. Now before anyone gets their panties in a knot, this is all just a hypithetical sitiation, where I am tring to illistrate what you are basically trying to do with the TLCA. Lets forget about the past and include everyone so every one can be happy? Well I would think there would be a lot of unhappy Americans who would stop being patriotic especially to the new country of MS don't you think? Same thing goes for Landcruiser Nuts, which I am proud to say I am one of. I already see the Trails being diluted by non old school cruisers, and once the Trails goes totally new-school with a smidget of old Toyotas, I am sad to say I am out. I might as well just buy the regular off the shelf 4X4 mags and just get all excited when I see the odd 40 there. I have come to accept that ,,,damn I am tired of typing about this BS. I don't think the TLCA is dying, let those that want to join, join, if you don't like it, screw it. I think it will die if we cater to the non-Landcruiser hippies who want to change the name to Toyota 4WD association. That is my opionin.

Cheers,
Deny

Just want to add I am not anti everyone else, I appreciate every member of the TLCA, no matter what they drive, I think the TLCA spreads the Landcruiser bond to everyone that drives a Toyota, even though they might not actually own a Landcruiser. Does that make sense?

Which debate are you specifically referring to? Romer's email?

What's your definition of Cruiser? We'll need to establish this if you're going to advocate Cruisers only in the TLCA. Is a 100 series any more a Land Cruiser than an FJCruiser? Determining this starting point might just take us to similar discussions as we had when we established our 'no cup holder' rule... which I hardly figure would fly with the rest of the TLCA.

Land Cruiser is Land Cruiser, I can't change that. Not a fan, but the new one is what it is, I ain't gonna change the rules. Can't really make that cuttoff, because where do you draw the line, everyone has a personal opinion, I just don't think we need to be changing anything, that's all I'm really saying I think:meh:
Just this whole politically correct thing has me up in arms, and I think changing an organization that has been around since 76 is not the way to go. Just make it a good association with the rules that we have and keep having fun, forget about politics and details and the TLCA will be just fine.

This is my vision of the TLCA:

I want it to be like the an outlaw biker club. It should be an underground club where we get together the odd time (TLCA events) where we can BS, have fist fights, and drink beer, sharing a good laugh. Have a secret handshake and wear our local chapter shirts/ stickers on our trucks proudly. Wear an eye patch. Have a cool newsletter with lots of pictures and stories of our adventures. Have an un talked about pact to help each other out in times of need. Give a fellow member your spare bed when they drive through town, take them to the local strip club and show them a good time while they are there. Wave as you pass them (non oldschool members will need a big TLCA on the front windshield so we know we are not just passing another soccor mom, and she might think we are stocking them if we wave!) Have BOD meetings where the entrance ticket is slam 3 beers. Have fist fights. Sing songs around the camp fire.........oh damn this is starting to sound corny. you get the idea:hillbilly: I need to get back to work damn it, or just go home and have a beer. getting loopy

So.... how is that any different than our chapter?

we dont sing songs around the campfire

No... but we've got our own band:

I'm not really keen on or anti-TLCA, but I definitely see where you are coming from Deny, and pretty much agree. Reminds me of the year I got the Toyota 4WD owners magazine. It was all runners and minis, and although it was sorta cool, that's not what I'm in to, so I let my subscription lapse.

I think what will have broad appeal and what will appeal to the base of LC enthusiasts is at odds. If numbers are dwindling, they can open it up to FJCs, Tacos, Runners, Rav3s and all that other stuff, and boost the numbers, but that's not an organization that has any appeal to me. I would rather that the TLCA stick with its roots and be there for the LC enthusiasts first and foremost, and not dilute out its soul with all the more popular non-cruiser toyota stuff. Should Taco and Mini owners be discouraged from participating in events, no, should the TLCA give equal coverage and advocacy to them, hell no.

But in the end, I don't really care that much. :meh:

Being at Pismo this past November was interesting. There were near as many FJCs there as cruisers, and it was easy to see the different mind-set. They didn't mingle much (some did of course), most of them had a separate side camp, there were a dozen or so out from Las Vegas with matching silly LV FJC club graphics on the sides of their trucks, they paraded..... Different bunch, different mind-set. Built vs. bought.

Deny, being in a one horse town (and it's your horse)I have to agree with you. The world in general is getting to flipping politically correct-you have to include everone and not single out anyone for being different(might hurt someones feelings) I say f@#K them, if they want to join it's the TLCA they are joining. If not go get your own sandbox and make the rule.

Ok, thats good to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I say if your a Cruiser person, I will open my home to you, if you are a Toyota person, I don't really have a stong connection, but if you are also a part of the TLCA, you want to share in the Cruiser bond, I treat you like a Cruiser person. I don't think I am being exlusive, It's just something you understand the first time you drive the cruiser down the road and get that first wave from another cruiser owner. It's wierd to explain. I've had cruiser owners stop on the side of the road while I pulled over to take a leak to ask if everything was OK, Ive had cruiser owners welcome me into their home and let me stay there, while feeding me barley knowing them, or with D'Animal never even meeting him before, Ive had a dude that used to own a cruiser give me all the manuals for my truck for free, after only meeting him for like a few minutes, Fellow local Howard giving us his 45 cause he will never get around to restoring it. The list can go on, but I have had nothing but good dealings with true cruiser people.

Who fed you barley??

Once upon a time a Cruiserhead sent me a winch cover off of bc4x4.com for free. I really wish I knew who he was because that was one of the first times I realized just how great the Cruiserhead community is. I still have that winch cover - it graces the front of the 77 now.

I think it's particularly strong up here. We don't have the options that city people have. We're lucky if anyone has the parts in town, or even in the 'big city' of GP 2.5 hours away. I do most of my part gathering online and half the time the parts people send are wrong and I have to send them back. So... the point I'm eventually going to get to is that while Cruiserheads are normally a close knit bunch, up here we're especially close because we truly know each others' worth.

That being said.... feel free to drop by any weekend cause I'll be in the garage-mahal [hint hint]. :)

Old Skool!

You know barley, slang for beer, duh

Lucky you have time to work in your shop, I'll prolly be stuck in the office for a while yet, proly a bit tomorow too, no rest for the wicked.

I picture more fist fights.....if it ever turns into a Rav 4 club I'm out, their magazines will probably have pictures of hurting dudes jumping into the air beside their gay Rave 4, trying to time the picture just right, shouting "im gay" in unison....no way you'd catch me reading a magazine like that

That's what I think is slowly happening, in order to drum up more members, they want to be inclusive, and essentually they are slowly turning their back on the Landcruiser members. I say you can be inclusive, but don't crush the little landcruiser guy in a stampede to get more members, essentually rubbing them out of the TLCA. And I have followed the debate long enough on the public forms to see that as soon as the TLCA changes their name to T4WDA, There will be a mass exit of Landcruiser owners, with possibly a new Landcruiser Only Accociation starting up. I know Pismo Jim has mentioned starting something of this sorts in the past.

Wasn't that in this last issue, although I think it was FJCs not Rav4s. I wasn't going to renew my membership this year, till I saw Charla's write up on the RubyCon. Cruiser content in trails is getting pathetically low (I know, I know, write something for it then....)

After a bunch more bod emails, I thought I would post up, and when I finally did (I tried real hard not to sound too simple minded with my fist fights and eye patch theory), I had this rejected because it told me I didn't have permission to post up. Damn you Charla, getting me involved with all the sissy bickering, and I can't even get in on it with my own nagging:flipoff2:

Here is what I was going to post in responce to changing the name of the TLCA:

We all joined the Landcruiser Association for different reasons, no one had a gun to their head to sign up. It is what it is, why do we have to change it. If you need more benefits than being part of a brother hood of Like-minded Toyota 4WD owners, than the other perks like fancy newsletter, and event insurence should be plenty no? In my opinion I already belong to a brother hood of Landcruiser owners and I do not need to join a club or association to be a part of it. The TLCA just gives us an avenue to network in the larger venue (more than just mud) both through the internet, newsletter, and events, as well as connect us with non-Cruiser owning Toyota Guys who share our interests. I don't want the organization to be exclusive, but I don't think it should have to change, just for the fact to be inclusive. If the organization began with the Land Cruiser, then let it continue with it, accomidate those that understand the phenomenon and want to be a part of what it is, and those that don't can start an international Toyota club that doesn't have the Landcruiser bond. As I said, this is my opinion only, but I speak for the Peace Canyon Toyota Swamp Donkeys, and after some discussion on this topic, am pretty sure most of them feel similarly, if not the same way.

Cheers,
Deny
