You can use the Teachstream software on a 64-bit OS. But Toyota/Techstream doesn't supply cables or the drivers for the cables.

As we know the Mini-VCI cable hardware only has a 32-bit driver.

Toyota dealers don't use those Mini-VCI cables - they use MongoosePro cables which are about ~$500.
MongoosePro Toyota 2

The MongoosePro cables are more mainstream and have more of a support/supply channel. Naturally the Mongoose cables come with 32-bit and 64-bit drivers. The MongoosePro cables can talk more protocols (do more things) and are designed for a heavier duty cycle.

There's a reason the cable/software we buy is only ~$20.

Thank you for the advice, can't believe you can buy a lap top for $59! I came across the 2nd link you posted last night and figured out it was a driver issue, may be worth a try but the thread is several years old now so not sure if everything still works - Dropbox acted like some files were not available for download anymore.

The techsteam lite site lists under the PC requirements that you can use a 64bit OS, so I assume they have a different driver available?

Got it, thanks for clearing that up - so paying for a 2 day trial doesn't solve my driver issue which is the real problem at hand. I guess I'll see if I can figure out how to get the 32 bit driver to work on my computer as described in the thread you mentioned or as a last resort may buy a shop laptop.

I sure hope using the remote to roll all the windows down is worth it haha!

Eh the remote thing is cool... but the neatness wears off after you use it a few times.

They don't allow you to roll up from remote though :-( But you can include the sunroof in the roll down.

I wish they would do something like VW/Audi (EUR spec) where the windows roll up and sunroof closes when the rain sensor thinks it's raining.

But then you have worries about this... Which is why remote roll up is disabled here in the US.
Although I would still like the feature.

is there an option you can select to make the USB port play both music and video?
Nope. The only adjustments are windows, lights, seats, etc. Pretty basic

Bringing this thread back to the top to see if it can help diagnosed a problem having with the front AC/blower system. Will the $20-40 cable and CD listings on eBay work to run diagnostics on the air system?

Probably yes. There are a number of diagnostics you can run from a laptop. For instance, when I changed my brake fluid the normal pump-and-fill procedure worked fine, but the laptop also lets you bleed the ABS actuators, which is something you can't normally do (or can't do easily).

Do you have access to the FSM (GSIC)? Normally if the troubleshooting instructions in the FSM refer to DTCs or the Toyota SST the laptop will also work.

If you're running Windows 7 or newer make sure if you grab a cable you get the latest 64-bit version of the software (at least 10.0.30). There are some older versions and 32-bit versions floating around which don't always work with newer Windows installs. If you've got a Mac you'll have to dual boot.

Thanks Geoff. I found a cable and cd (64 bit, Win 10) to try out from ebay for $35. Coming from the east coast and the description was not ridden with typos so it seemed safe. I'll give it a try when it arrives. I think my issue is a bad blower relay or bad blower motor. I'm going to try some voltage tests while I'm waiting for the cable.

does someone have a recent link fo this stuff? Need it for an 09 LX, in Canada so ideally amazon or eBay. TIA

thanks! Looks like the seller ships to Canada as well. HE's sold over 700 of them so I am guessing its pretty safe.

Not sure if it's actually newer. It seems like they just added the 24 at the end because of the firmware number 2.0.4. Just added the 24 at the end because it was higher than 17. I took 12.30.17 to be the date of software release. The other thing that makes me question that "newer" one is all the spacing and stuff is off in the description. Which makes me think it was copy/pasted into the description. I had some of the same thoughts as I was looking but came down to what description looked like the seller took some time with it.

I bought this one in 2016 and it works on my 2013 LC on Windows 10 without issue.

Original Mini VCI Diagnostic Cable OBD for Toyota Lexus TIS Techstream fw 2.0.4 | eBay

Mine came with TIS version 10.30.x, but apparently there's a newer version available (12.30.x). Doesn't seem like there's any difference in the cable, just a newer TIS installer. If someone picks up one of these cables and can drop a copy of the installer on dropbox or google drive I'd gladly try it and confirm ;-)

Anyone know if these mini VCI cables come with the full version of Techstream or Techstream LITE? I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer to install the OEM remote start.

EDIT: Local dealer wants 5 hours of labor to install.

It’s a full version, kinda hacked I assume. You need to disable WiFi when you run it, or else it will connect to techinfo and tell you that you don’t have an account.

There are some functions in techstream that I believe require a real TIS account (like ECU reprogramming), but you can replace keys and fobs, get and clear Toyota-specific error codes, modify user settings, and run diagnostics found in the FSM.

Just wanted to give a shout out for this link. Works flawless on Win 10 64. Just follow the step-by-step instructions in the Read Me file. Way easier than the WinXP/32bit nightmare I went through a few years ago when needing to do some work on one of our 100s.

Oh, and mine shipped with 12.30.017.
