Drive to work with boggers for a few months and let me know if you "like" the tread pattern.
I use my truck for similar purposes (except as a DD) - I am making practical suggestions based my experience (33,000 kms in the last two years - no DD) and others, such as Deny re Interco tires.
If you have lots of Web time to burn fantasizing on this forum about what you ‘want’ rather than ‘need’ without any intended purpose -- I will gladly stop wasting my time trying to help you and let you continue to maximize your post count.

Take care now.

Run the 36 XL's on my trailer and as spare tires for my 36 swampers. not much to say on running them on a truck, but can say they are really heavy and have a thick side wall. heavier than my 12.5 wide swampers and they are a lot narrower.

Is it really a big deal in the big picture though? Toughness is what I am after in a tire.

Always worthwhile to pay attention to unsprung weight, particularly if you see highway KMs like Moab or SoCal trips. Might save your butt on the highway...

You do have a point there.
For me I think I would sacrifice having a tougher tire, just a preference.

So has anyone come to conclusions on other good mtrs?

I bought my BFG muds last summer. Did the Rubicon on them, drove many miles in California on them before coming home, the usual wheeling around here since then, down to Utah and back again just recently on them.
They still look almost like new, no cuts or scrapes, great traction. I would buy another set again if it was required.

I bought 37x12.5 R15 Pitbull Rocker Radials earlier this year, they rock! plain and simple
the casting lines on the thread are about gone with 2000ish kms. My Dad's 35x12.5 R15 still have the casting lines and he has well over 4000 kms on his.
Rain and snow braking and climbing are excellent
dry road cornering great, no barking or sliding
road noise isn't that bad for a large competition mud tire
pricing is fair as well

No balancing at all in either of our tires. Up to 115km/h is smooth. At 118ish I get some vibes in my Wagon. I haven't asked my Dad about his yet but I'm sure he would have said something by now.
So, for all of you grocery getters with 31" tires that have a strip of lead around your wheel maybe it's time to upgrade to a better brand of tire

Was going to ask you how you liked them, Gavin is in the market for tires as soon as work is steady and finding a 37x12.5R15 is getting to be slim pickings and what is left is $$

When I was looking for something in a 37 in a 15" or 16" rim, I found most of the major tire manufactures were stepping away from making a 37s in those rim sizes, with the exception of Interco and Pitbulls. I wanted something other than a Interco tire, since I already tried the SSR when they were pretty much brand new, and wanted to try something different. I wanted something with a better build quality than a Interco tire, and didn't know much about Pitt Bulls, so I ended up going to 17" rims and with the Cooper STTs.

My experience with 37x12.5R15 Super Swamper SSR:

Road Noise (when new) = Fairly Quiet for M/T
Pavement Dry Traction = Good+
Pavement Wet Traction = Fair+ (Poor when road is worn and aggregate is raised)
Pavement Snow
= Fair (Poor lateral traction on snowy mountain pass on the way to hot springs in Death Valley, Sailor's BFG Mall Terrains handled it very easily made him look like a rally driver)
Mud = Good (Poor in slick sticky clay)
Balanced New with lead = Very good (Only a few oz. on each wheel inside of rim only)
Balanced Used with lead = Poor (Took a lot of weight inside and outside of rim for each wheel, tire wore unevenly in different spots)
Balanced Used with beads = Very good (with 10 oz. of beads in each tire)
Wear = Good (55,000km, probably be a little more life if rotated, one tire developed a sidewall bulge during hwy cruising to Moab and survived Moab wheeling, removed tire on the way back home in Oregon the bulge grew some more and got really iffy)
Rocky terrain of MOAB and Calico Trail = Good+
Sidewalls = Good- (Thick 3 ply sidewalls, but heavy tire)
Side Biters = Fair- (Weak tread design, tends to tear off when gripping rock)
