im looking to up grade from my 31x10.5 to some 33x11.5 or something close to that. anybody have any recomendations? i will be on the highway a bit. could care less about the noise though. it is my daily driver. thanks
It really depends on what you want from your truck. If you want a good weekend warrior/daily driver tire I would go with a semi-agressive m/t tire such as the new BFG M/T KM2, which I have hear lots of good things about. Another great tire is the toyo open country m/t----an amazing tire but one of the more expensive m/t's on the market. Personally I would stay away from the more agressive tread patterns such as tsls, boggers, krawlers. Unless you wheel alot and have money to blow.
I personally have a set of 35" bfg at's for my DD which have amazing road manners and tread life compared to any m/t. Then I have a set of tsl's which i throw on before I go wheeling....Best of both worlds. Check our your local 4x4 forum/buysell for used 33's and then just check the reviews for them. Buying used makes more sense to me.
I have nothing but great things to say about the KM2... My bro has them on his fj40 and his 72 chevy. If you want a tire that will last for ever as well as perform the BFG all terrain is the tire to go for. I have had that on my 40 for quite some time now...
33 11.50 are going to be an odd size to find its either going to be 33 10.50 or 12.50... and if you are going for a size for a stock or a little bit upgraded toyota I would go for a 31 or 33 10.50... I run 31's on my toy and the performance loss is noticeable on the 31's and the 33's are even more noticeable just depends on what kind of driving you are doing.
Gotta remember if you are keeping stock gearing, bigger tires are going to reduce your mileage. And in any driving going from an AT to an MT will reduce your mileage. Just have to weight your pros and cons and decide whether or not the gains from an MT are worth the loss is highway performance, plus the extra highway noise.
For mostly highway and DD use I would recommend a good A/T. I've run Bridgestone AT Dueler historically (I think they are now called Revo). Currently I run BFG A/T around town with BFG M/T KM in the garage for play time. Unless you are going to be spending a lot of time in the mud or on the rocks you don't need the MTs. All terrain tread tires also last longer and run smoother.
