After showing my ladder last night to LCP, it was time to fix a problem I've had since last summer. Details:
  1. Gobi ladder (love it) additional weight was too much for oem struts, swapped out with McMasters like numerous others.
  2. McMasters, if you don't know, are slightly longer than stock (~1.5" from memory but don't quote me). Extra lift rotates the tailgate higher up and one of the installation bolt/nut combos for the Gobi ladder was forced into the top of the LC - denting the roof. Small but into the paint now with very small rust spot....gotta fix it!
  3. New brackets were something I knew would fix it but hadn't done anything about. Here they are....

Bracket holes based on originals as a template (duh), used aluminum I had laying around:

Wanted to avoid dissimilar metal contact and/or cut down on brackets rubbing paint, cut strips of this as a pad/barrier between body and brackets:

Installed pic - bottom bolt now ~1 1/4" lower than it used to be, much closer to matching overall stock height of tailgate when lifted this way....fits just fine, gate shuts without any issues, etc.

Hard to tell but the bolt furthest from the camera was the one that was denting the roof. It's now resting above the roof by at about 1/4". Problem solved....

Thanks for posting the mod
Can you post the McMasters strut part number you used with the additional ladder weight?

Well made ladder I will be ordering on Monday

This (#4138T57) - also edited first post with the same link....

Can you post the info on the Gobi ladder for the 80 series landcruiser, thanks in advance.

I never updated this but after having it for close to a year, I am very satisfied. Sturdy with no loss of powder coat and I've used it plenty.

No link I'm aware of. I stumbled across a pic of it last year, made inquiries and eventually found Brian at Axxis Off-road (Brian@axxisoffroad.com) who facilitated the transaction on my behalf. I really like the ladder but would never have gotten it had Brian not intervened.

Pic above is at sits in my driveway.
