I've had my 33x12.50x15 BFG AllTerrains since Aug 2001, they still have a little over 1/2" of tread, averaging 20,000 km per year. They started on My FJ40, 2.5" Rancho lift other wise stock. I've manageed to keep up with the big dogs around here in all bu the worst mud. Alot of that is due to size, we tend to get some pretty deep ruts around here. When I started the rebuild on my 40 (Turtle pics) I moved the tires to my 76 FJ55 with no lift, and sagged springs. They rubbed when I stuffed them, but not to bad. When I bought my 85 BJ70, I moved the tires again. No lift sagged springs, yeah they rub when stuffed, but worse than that is hitting the bumpstops. I think It's time for a lift on that one. they're on a set on 15x8 and work fine for me.

Here's a question:

Has anyone here tried the Parnelli Jones Tires? I like the looks and think they'd do well for my style of wheeling, but I'd like to hear opinions!

C!

Yoko Geolander II ATs
32x10.5x15

I have been nothing but pleased with this tire selection. I originally was waiting for Kumho MTs, but the backorder at the time was soo long that I went with the Geolander AT. My largest need for tread is at the beach for going down the coast and the AT tread handles itself well.

I also drive my FJ daily, so the road manners at 75 mph are also important. No complaints here.

Good tire if you are not offroad everyday.

Cheers.

My last tires were 31 x 12.5 boggers. Noisy, sucked in wet weather compared to TSLs, followed the groves in the road too. Not much lift req'd for them, just some trimming. When in soft sand or dirt, they DIG fast and hard. You will be on your frame rails in no time. I was told it was because they are bias ply. I never ran them with power steering, but I wouldn't want much more tire without PS.

Right now I have 36 x 12.5 TSL swampers on 15 x 7.5 rims. I had em siped for the winter and they are awsome. Snow, mud, wet. They were great in Moab, had em at 13 to 15 psi the whole time and never a problem. I heard a little hiss on Hells Gate, but they were great. In the mornings I couldn't do over 30 mph till they warmed up and rounded out. They don't follow ruts as bad as the boggers I had and are quieter than them too. Compared to the boggers they are like A/Ts. They also don't dig as bad. I am still SUA and have a couple inches of lift (not sure just how much maybe 2.5") and the rear fenders are trimmed.

38.5 X 14.5 TSL-SX Had em on about two years now, flat spots from hell and real noisy. Great in the sand and even at 8 lbs. last week in Moab there was little change in sidewall height. Did great on the rocks but I think they could use to be siped. Not a dialy driver so the cons don't really matter and I really like the pros..

I have had 2 sets of 35" BFG muds and love them. In between the two sets I tried Pro Comp muds and wasnt happy with how fast they wear. So back to BFG Muds and never look back :D

I was running 35's Bfg MTKM ,they looked cool but my truck was driving really weird, after aprox 4k miles of use, even shaking my steering wheel, also very hard to steer(I don't have power steering).Performance on rocks and mud is great and I was impressed with noise level (lower than previous bfg's). I'm Running 35"MTR's now and love them, they are easier to steer than A/T's and MT's because of the contact on ground is not as wide. :)

31X10.50 goodyear Ats, i have put about 5,000 miles and it seems like they are wearing down fast, but they is still alot of life left, i am thinking about 33X10.50 BFg Mts next.

I have had a set of 33x12.50 15 Bridgstone Duellet M/T's on my FJ-4- since 1996. I have no idea how many miles are on them but they have srved me well. I drove all over Alaska, from Alaska to Alabama, Alabam to North Carolina, in the mud, the snow, on ice, and every where else. I have never had a flat. They are starting to wear now but have stood up very well.

They are awesome in mud and snow and handle well on the road but they suck on ice or packed snow.

I have a 4" lift with shackle reversal and have had to trim the rear fenders to get them to fit.

I higly recommend these tires but I am considering something else tjhat has more siping for the ice and snow. Any recommendations?

BFG All Terrains. 33x 9.5 on stock rims. Stock springs with 1.5 inch extended shackles.
I have yet to meet a speed bump at the mall that I can't handle with ease.
The extra 3/4 inch lift insures that the tires don't rub when exiting a parking lot and inadvertently dropping off a curb.

Excellent street tire.

Last tyres:
Silverstone MT117 280/85x16 (35x10.5)
VERY good in mud, ok on road - noise was OK, so was grip
offroad was very happy with them - good treadwear.
traded up to wider because they only came in a 10.5
typically ran 10psi offroad for best traction.

30mm body lift, 3" spring lift, SUA, cut guards f&r.
2" b/s on rims - got slight rubbing on rear tubs on full articulation.

Current tyres:
Maxxis Creepy Crawlers 37x12.5x16 - 8ply.
reasonable in mud (but not as good as the silverstones), rock, grass, etc much better traction.
ok on road - noise was OK, grip a bit hazy in the wet but still safe to drive as long as I'm careful.
offroad am very happy with them - good treadwear, bit of chucking but that's more my driving style than the tyres :).
I typically run 6psi offroad for best traction.

I'd buy them again.

30mm body lift, 3" spring lift, SUA, cut guards front.
Rear body is custom, 2" b/s on rims, I get slight rubbing on the rear chassis rails on full articulation.
Fronts rub on the lower conrer of the bib - it's getting modified soon!

On my cruiser running a spring over I have 33x12.5x15 bfg a/t....I dont really care for them but they last forever...hoping to go to an Iroc or possibly some pit bull rockers which I have heard good things about...

On the mini I got 35x16x15 boggers...great tire off road cant get anything but traction...also a great ear catcher since they sound like a plane taking off...would definet;) :) ly buy another set...

Maybe not the best, I won't know for awhile.....but they look good! IMHO

35x14.50 R15's SSR

with a springover and a couple of extra inches of lift i ran 38.5X14.50 tslsx's and they were great offroad. loud as crap and a little squirmish on the road, but i was driving mostly offroad. this is definitely the tire i would buy if i wanted a very aggressive tire-i wouldn't even bother trying anything different.
i was trying to get a little more streetability, so i put a set of 35X12.50 ssr's and like them fine on the road. i put 30psi in them and they drive like any other street tire. somewhat noisy, but nothing too bad. not real impressed with them offroad, but they do air down and work decent. it's hard to be pleased with them offroad after having the big tires.

When I got my '74 in 1980 it had Armstrong Tru-Trac from Dick Cepek on it. Anybody remember those? They were some scary ass tires. I bought the BFG Mud Terrains when they came out (1981?) in 31.00 - 10.50 x 15 on 8" steel spoke wheels. Stock suspension, no lift. Minor rubbing in the rear but excellent ride & handling. Very impressive in mud, but didn't self clean as well as I thought they would, and I think it's because I could never get the tires to spin fast enough, and being this grayish black East Texas clay. They lasted a long time but eventually I replaced them with BFG All Terain in the same size/wheels. I used to spend a lot of time on the beach in Galveston, and the switch to AT worked well. A little slippery on wet streets. (Tires outlasted my sheetmetal.)

I now have Dunlop Radial Mud Rover, 275-75 R15. I was tired of the (slightly) oversize tires extending past the fenders and throwing sand, mud, water, etc. all over me, my passengers and the inside of the truck. Also, I wanted to put stock Toyota rims back on, and didn't want to go too wide. Mixed feelings about these tires. Tread life sucks compared to the BFG radials. Tread is half gone after roughly 7K miles. They're noisy, especially for a tire this size. Traction is awesome though, equal to or better than the BFG Mud Terrain. Maybe it's the smaller diameter, but I climb hills in 2WD that previously required 4WD with the BFG tires. Acceleration is definitely better, but again, that's tire diameter. Sounds cool when they spin off the line and chirp in 2nd gear with the stock motor. On road handling is more like a sports car than a truck. But the tread life issue will have me shopping for somethng else next time. My .02 worth

Q78-15

On my SOA FJ45, I have Super Swamper TSL Q78-15 tires on stock FJ60 steel rims.

Not the best highway tire, but they kick-arse off the road in any conditions...haven't been in deep snow with them yet though.

I had 37x12.5x15 Goodyear MTRs on it before and the two measured up to the same height. Q78s are about 35.5" O.D. new, the MTRs were a few years old.

On my DD cruisers I have BFG ATs, I've never had a problem with them, they do great all year 'round
