Can you export pro-e files (.prt) I was thinking about adding some plate to the outside to box it in. Keep us posted with your design changes.

Can't wait to see the front bumper!

How would you add plates to the outside? The body mounts are on the outside which make it quite difficult to add plates there. I will look at my Autodesk CAD software and see if I can export the plate design as a .prt.

Just take some cardboard and mock it up cutting out the spots for the pull plates, hitch and the frame rails then cut the plate and weld it up.

I think we are talking about different things or I'm just totally confused on the question. If your welding the plate to the frame then I guess it doesn't matter if your cutting around the body mounts, but again I'm not sure I'm on the same page as you as to exactly what were talking about. Pics would help my stupidity.

I took his question as he wanted to box the tube in and didn't now how to do it. We both need a better understanding of his question. I'm glad I wasn't alone on figuring out his question. I'd hate to see all that work get covered up but each there own.

I went back and read the question again and I think your right. I think he wants to add some thin sheet metal so you can't see through the bumper. That would work in some spots but wouldn't in the corners. The far bottom pinch weld of the rear quarter panel sticks out between the tubes and would get in the way of sheet metal. You could hammer that corner back or cut and fold it back for the needed clearance. that thought did cross my mind but it was way more effort and time then I cared to put into the bumper. I wanted simple and clean. The front bumper may get a little sheet metal work since there's the ac drier that looks rather ugly and a few other things I really don't want to see.

I really like this!

pretty sweet design, i did this exact design for a 84 pick up about 6 years ago and it was quit awesome.

Thanks. I have since smashed this bumper numerous times on the trail and it has held up REALLY well. I have used it to pull a few different rigs out of bad spots with no issues. I have been very pleased with it so far.

I built similar back in January for a customer, however this one has a swing out

Tight and right

Great design, love how it looks and it looks too. I also really dig the weight savings as these trucks are PIGS! Only thing I would do differently for my own rig is to add another tube (or perhaps a flat platform) along the top that would allow figment of the alum piece from the stock bumper - for standing on to access roof. But then, it would have to sit away from the body a bit more.

Isn't it going to be tough to hook up a trailer?

I don't own anything to tow anymore. My rear hitch is for my winch. I run winch cables to the front and rear bumpers with quick disconnects at the end. If I did need tow something I would have to add about a 10" drop to make it work. Those aren't too expensive, but I just don't have the need to buy one.

Your design influenced my rear bumper build.

Thank you
