Tube bumper for the 80. Some fun angles to play with for sure. Removed the rear cross member and cut 3 5/8" off the frame rails, tucks in nice for better departure angle. The bumper itself acts as the rear most cross member and a secondary cross member has been added that also carries the forward end of the 2" receiver. The sides wrap around to the rear of the wheel well and are tied back to the sides of the frame. This bumper will have a swing out with spare tire mount and a double Jerry can rack. More to come :)

Most of the main bumper is together, including cross member and receiver tube. Spindle is in place for the swing out. Still some gussets to put in as well.

80 Series Bumper Pricing

The tube bumper shown can be built with either .120” wall or .188 wall DOM tubing. This bumper is designed to be used on an 80 series frame that has had 3 5/8” cut off it’s length, including the rear most cross member. This is done to increase departure angle. The OEM spare tire mount and any exhaust components behind the passenger rear tire are also removed from the vehicle. The rear cross member is replaced with the bumper itself and a secondary 1.5” X 2.5” X .188” wall Rectangular tubing cross member that also acts as the forward mounting point for the 2” receiver.

The bumper attaches to the main frame via 4- ½” grade 8 bolts and one 12mm grade 10.9 on each side. Side wings of the bumper attach to the side of the frame using 4 8mm bolts. All mounting points to the frame are constructed with ¼” plate steel. Recovery points are ¾” wide and tied directly to the frame. A 2” receiver is standard as shown.

Swingouts are available in two configurations. Standard swing out is a single arm with a spare tire mount. A Jerry can rack or ladder can be added at an additional cost. Can rack and ladder mount to tabs and are removable and interchangeable. Dual swing out version puts the spare tire on one rack and either a Jerry Can rack or ladder on the second rack. A Hi-Lift jack mount can be added to either version at an additional cost.

Standard Bumper $ 975.00

Single Swing Out
SwingOut $ 725.00
Jerry Can Rack $ 175.00
Ladder $ 175.00
Hi-Lift Mount $ 75.00

This particular bumper will have only one swing out, although it can also be built with two.

Funny. I checked out your site before and really liked a tube bumper you had on a 4Runner that I tried to find someone locally (CA) to mimic .... which never happened :bang:

Wow! That's very different.

I'm interested to see what it looks like powder coated with the swing out.

From elsewhere I've been conversing with Stan about. Guess I should consolidate to one forum.

Ahhh, no problem on the powder coat (PC). I do not offer it. The closest half decent coater is more than an hour one way from here. I also am not willing to stand behind someone else's work. I also fully expect my bumpers to be used, read beat, because for most that is what they are used for. Paint is far easier to touch up and match color.

I'm in.

The bumper looks good! Light weight, good departure, and functional.

I noticed the license palte frame, the 80 I bought for my daughter had the same one, go Bears!

Not my hatch, vehicle belongs to customer.

What year is your 4RNR?

Like it, Stan. A lot.

The returns are nearly the same as I attempted to describe to a local fabricator.

One question I have (going to attempt to keep dialogue regarding on Mud) is if the lower tube, as it turns the corner, could be maintained at the same elevation as it is exiting the corner?

Know that doesn't make sense. Be back with a sketch ( worth a thousand words).

I'm normally not a tube bumper kinda guy but I must say I like the looks of that!

Thanks much guys, glad that you like it.

Chris, I have an idea what you are saying but not quite sure.

Sorry to hear that you won't be getting paid for your work. Although I'm sure your customer appreciates you redistributing your wealth!

What are you talking about? I am pretty sure the comment on the hatch was made regarding the Obama sticker.

As was mine :D

Obama = socialism = redistribute the wealth

Ahhh, who knew. I am not politically concerned. They are all self interested crooks as far as I can tell. Besides I thought this was a thread about a bumper.

My apologies, didn't mean to upset anybody. I edited my post
