What mounts are you using for both, as they are different in size. The water can is almost an 1" taller than the Fuel can.

What are your likes?
Dislikes?
Would you change anything?

I've been working on a prototype that will secure both cans, tightly and safely. Mount to any rack and most a direct fit. Position,iInstall hardware and mount.

Can be stacked side by side with zero gap, or end to end.

Before I go forward, looking for input from those that know and use them.

Thanks

Shane

Post up what you like, or what needs improved upon. I'm not scared intimidated when it comes to design and overbuilding. But I can say those latches that have the curve are hard to find if you're wanting a band style retainer.

I am not sure what the issue here is....after 21 yrs in the Corps we only used 1 sized mount for either water or fuel.

They are not the same size. Dimensions are different all the way around. That's one issue. Another is that MIL does not transport them on their back as we do on roof racks, here lies the dimension difference. The MFC fuel container is just about an 1" shorter that the MIL water version. At 30.3 pounds of fuel that has an 1" to move inside the tray, this will fine a weak spot quickly and fail. That's not an option in my book.

So we designed a mount that both rest in and best tight with no movement when strapped into place.

we could use a decent 10lb propane cylinder mount as well.

Thinking on that a little more. I was designing one for the 5# it's small and I assumed that's enough for a week. No?

Is the the 10# you're thinking of?

And then the 5#

In about the 20 years the polymer "jerry cans" have been in use, I have only ever seen a couple failures. Mainly the can ruptures when it is dropped from a height (the top of a tank). Other failures are the seals around the lid, but that is "it". I have never seen anything "wear through" from friction or otherwise.

BTW vehicle mounts (military) fit both water and fuel with no issues. The strap length compensates for any can dimension differences.

I use Front Runners Universal Double Jerry Can Holder. I did have to trim around the 4" fuel cap. I cropt this pic to get a better view, I can get better pics later if you are interested.

Could you post a close up? Looks like there is hardly anything left on the metal after the trimming.

Ha, ha, no just firewood, we were in Death Valley for a couple weeks. I put more on the rack because my dog takes up the back seat. I did remove quite a bit of metal from the Front Runner holder but they seem to hold up. I think the price is very reasonable compared to other holders. For those who are in th LA area, Front Runners is off the 101 Fwy in the Thousand Oaks area, there display area is pretty nice. I can take close up pics if anyone is interested.
