I'm finally gonna make it!

Believe it or not a distant relative passed away two weeks ago. But it ain't gonna stop me from going. Neither will Hillary nor Donald. Lol. :bang:

I have 3 CB's (in boxes) and a few tactical mini flash lights for the raffle. :bounce::bounce2:

If the driver of the Hundy gets to skip work Friday, we leave then, if not, we'll be waking people on Saturday by 7ish.:censor:

BaoFeng UV-5R.

It's way easier to do if you bring your laptop with chirp installed. For regular trail comms, no programming is necessary.

Mt Rose and Fredonner are each about 40mi away. I'm not sure they're going to be much help to those of use with only a BaoFeng radio. You could probably get into Reno pretty easily with a mobile rig though.

Mt Hough is about 20 miles.

Plumas County amateur radio repeaters

We should get together with SBTS and get a permanent install at the Sierra Buttes.

If you send me a chirp file I could install that or manual type it in. It's using it functionally I have trouble with, not sure why. I have a better quality antenna installed on it also.

So should we all just start with 146.400 for now and change it if necessary? for those with CB radios, maybe use channel 39?

The reason we use 146.460 is that 146.400 is the preferred national 2m simplex frequency and, as such, is less likely to be private. I suppose I don't really care, but 146.460 is kind of the standard simplex frequency for norcal Toyota gatherings that I attend, Rubithon, fj45 run, Pismo...

good luck with those hong kong fooey HTs. price point is good. nice audio but an HT is an HT. Helpful if your mobile rig has x band repeat. Nice for relative distance, but to hit the GL area machines need 50 watts and an external antenna. good luck. I am a yeasu fan.

One day....

Two more days! I have to wrench on the truck today and get the front E-locker working and the rear bumper on... oh joy.

On the bright side, stickers deliver tomorrow and I can ship em out to everybody. :D

I'm just running the baofeng as well with a upgraded antenna. It Works for what I usually need it for. The Diablo cruiser group was gonna use the 146.460 that's the only reason I was looking at other options. That way we don't all interfere with each other. Unless that's the way its supposed to work. :meh: Yo no sey!

LMAO! That would be awesome...BaoFeng UV-5R.

I have the same, and still learning. Lol. I'll make some dessert for someone that tutors me and @TYM4FUN ...

And still don't have the certificate. Yikes.

I consulted notes in the rig. We camp at Snake Lake often and a full strength machine is 147.050 pl 77.0 From Johnsville/ Plumas Eureka area south to the Buttes and parts of Henness Pass. Most of Gold Valley. Notes indicate "Oregon Peak' Good solid commo along the crest. Also the mighty .805 is hit from up top as well. 146.805 pl 123 Placerville. We were at Little Deer Lake earlier this year chatting with guys camped at Dirty Dozen in the Springs via the linked system. Need a data connection at GL? top of the switch backs @ overlook = Verizon full smash.

147.050 sounds promising. Standard offset would be +.600. Is that how it's set up?

I have posted to FB via AT&T at the Deer Lake overlook. I don't get any bars at Packer Saddle, however. Very likely to get full bars on any service from the top of Mills Peak. Even if you don't MTB you can visit the CalFire employee up there and walk around the lookout. The view of Graeagle and Portola is outstanding. You can also see over to North*.

Do you have a full-power mobile, or are you making these connections via HT? .805 system is awesome. I've talked to folks on the Rubicon from my son's place in East Sac via HT with upgraded antenna.
