Our 80 is driven by the missus, all five foot two and 45 kilo of her, so am paying close attention to pedal pressure required to operate these clutches.

Ultimately this will be the deciding factor for purchase time. She may be small, but i have to sleep sometime, and have learned to never pi$$ off a hobbit........

Most aren't boosted. Manual TD Sahara were (I think) my JDM VX HDJ81 had a boosted clutch. I think the standard 80 have a spring and lever arrangement as assistance on the clutch pedal.
Even boosted, the clutch is on the heavy side.

I'm in the middle of a clutch job with my HZJ77.
Putting a Exedy Safari Tuff in to replace the stock clutch.
Flywheel machining tomorrow.

Apparently the clutch has an increase pedal feel of about 25%.
I measured the stock clutch pedal pressure (bathroom scale/4x4 chuck of wood) with the truck running.
Gave me a reading on the scale between 14-16lbs

I'll report back with the results.

agreed .. you may handle it for a while and depending on driving situation ( traffic jam or not )

I find it pretty funny they made a 6.5td GM V8 clutch to handle 1000Nm. Because the rest of those engines can't.

Sorry forgot to add that it's just a Chev Pressure plate with some sort of Isuzu light truck 12" friction plate. Unsure of the specs, but like i said Doug from NPC said it'll handle 1000nm.

1hdft with grunter2 turbo and slipping clutch

Hi experts, i need your help.
I just got done putting a fully rebuilt 1hdft into my 80 (5speed manual). It has a grunter2 gturbo and an intercooler. Got it running today and it sounds and runs awesome, but the clutch starts to slip around 2200 rpm at full throttle.
I am running the stock 1hdt 300mm clutch, and it is almost new.
What will bolt on for my application that can handle the power? I need this thing on the road....
Thank you!
Jan

4Terrain. Sounds like you have similar to me, and thats what I now run, its perfect.

I did an exercise a while back on my clutch as mine broke, after a lot of reading I established that the 4 terrain is the only true "heavier duty" clutch out their other than custom . My car is JDM and came with a few power mods. after the Icooler I fit I had plenty power then the clutch went. When I took my clutch out I was interested to find that I had a TRD pressure plate with very broken clutch plate so I sent some emails around the world and established that the TRD pressure plate is up-specked from std toy but the clutch plate remains the same so I went and bought a clutch plate from Mr T and new pilot and thrust and to make a kit, also took the TRD plate to some custom specialists and they tested it ,I should have asked for figures but the guy said it was way over std spec and in excellent condition so I figured reusing it. I intent to swap it out as the kit that I was incorrectly advised to used as an HD clutch is a toyota dyno truck clutch slightly different spline fit and no anti rattle built in but fits the cruiser and I want it out as it is noisy. That said I dont know how my TRD kit will handle a GTurbo which is giving me sleepless nights. Surely one would need to spec up the pressure plate as well as the clutch plate ?

Graeme likes the npc performance. Any ideas about that please?
I need help here, i need this thing on the road.

4 Terrain are poo, when you really look at it the design is flawed, large sections of the organic face lie unsupported and rely on the stiffness of the plate itself to force them against the flywheel. The one I had never felt great, gear changes were average and it never really clamped hard, few times on fast changes in low range it would slip, one day I spun it hard in low 3rd and it was rooted, started slipping on the way to work one day and it was gooooone.

Replaced with a safari tuff, much better, clamps hard, good feel and not a worry yet and now putting out more torque than the 4 terrain ever had to cope with.

Ok my friend BigBoy, Stop teasing me and tell me what it is and where i can get it. And how much to paypal
L you to ship it to me :)
Cheers, thanks

Its a custom clutch I have made and sell to the high boosting turbo guys. Keeping in mind its a daily driver so clutch feel and pedal pressure is addressed.

Super high torque cover
120% more clamping force than stock
extreme organic plate (very smooth feel)
Leverage points have been altered to reduce pedal force

I dont know where you live to for a shipping qoute? Surely someone inthe US can build the same?

Could you please pm me a quote? It is going to be really hard to get this made in the us, since none oh the 1hxx engines were ever sold here.
Graeme suggested to get in touch with NPC performance, and they will quote me a clutch for 750nm of torque.
I am in san diego, ca92065, usa.
Thank you!!

Did you have a 4Terrain, or an RPM? as they don't list a 4Terrain that I can find.

can anybody here explain how the forces work in a clutch in this case regarding adding power to these motors. If you upgrade the pressure plate what needs to happen to the clutch plate ? my broken one had two bust springs inside
How do you get the balance right in a custom clutch, spose a clutch builder would know..
