I know it’s been discussed on Mud but I had never heard this story.

I've got that mag tucked away somewhere.
I remember reading that story when that issue came out
has there been any updates on the refurbish?

Covid stuck a wrench in everything at CC. They are digging back , personal vehicles are low on the totem pole

What an awesome story, thanks mate for sharing!

I would like to add that, according to the German TLC guru Alexander Wohlfarth, FJ45 production in Japan did continue till 1986 (!), in order to satisfy demand until production of the new 70-Series would be sufficient to do this (p.52, in his book "Legende Land Cruiser", Heel editions, 2011, No affiliation!) Amazon product ASIN 3958433022
PS. Serving in the Greek Navy that time, I missed the above mentioned Four Wheeler April 1988 issue, but I got the July 1988 issue, dedicated to the 40-Series, at the US Naval Base "Nea Makri" (close to the historical Marathon battlefield)...
