One pack of shims and I think with the fridge it’ll still rub. Couldn’t find my locating pins, so the holes needed some refinement and it took a bit longer than planned.
Scrap plywood from local building site wasn’t the right dimensions either.
It goes in and out though.
You need to hurry up and finish so I can clone it. 🙂

Still thinking about how I want to build the cage. Slide is ‘done’, but hope to pick up the correct length base ply at some point this summer to grab one more anchor point further back and support all the way to hatch and avoid the shims. Opens fine with fridge on it, but I think I’ll flip the rivets at the front so that any dragging on the tailgate is a smooth surface.

I did flop the rivets over for the first four on the bottom so they wouldn’t drag in the tailgate. Drilling out and adding back took all of 5 min.
Moved on to coat shelf v2. Decided to rotate the brackets 180 degrees. Some hammer and vise time fixed this. This is working much better. Put a spacer on the front bracket which is around 1/4” higher.
Bolted a 15” piece of small angle aluminum to the bottom to sandwich up.
Added the other four brackets to the front with zip ties and finished off with a long bungee.
Works pretty good. Much more solid than the v1. Will roll with this and see if v3 is required. It has about 7” above to the ceiling with about 5” at the back as the roof slopes down.

My optima yellowtop AGM starter battery is on the way out. I put the tender on it Saturday and it was at 50% (again). Because I'm absolutely a glutton for punishment and can't abide without fiddling, I decided to ignore all reasonable input and replace my starter battery with LTO instead of the completely workable, reliable solution of a SLA.

I just have to nurse the AGM thru the summer until the boat gets here with the cells.

Power steering fluid flush. Pretty straightforward. The little hose popper thing was critical to success again.
Used a mityvac to empty reservoir first but this isn’t necessary. Another cycle of wheel turns could accomplish the same thing.
Valvoline full synthetic atf. It’s a pleasing dark red. Old fluid with at least 30k miles on it dark brown.

checked the radiator patch. Still looks solid. My radiator toP seal rubber To the frame is worn out though, will need a new one of those.

had to fill overflow tank again. 2nd time in six weeks. Imagine it’s a valley leak.

Decided to do grid panels on the rear side windows. Will use the roof mounted storage shelf brackets for top mounts. Plan to put rivnuts into the lower quarter panel for bottom mounts.
Some aluminum bar in between to attach the grids to.

Have most of the parts in house for the LTO starter battery. Got the BMS a couple days ago. Just waiting on the batteries now.

Got deep into negotiations on alibaba for some 17” steelies.
+ 40 offset. $550 for 5 all in. 90 day delivery
Decided to hold off, but it’s good to see there are some low entry options available.
There are six options, I settled on #3.

They said 15kg.
I suppose it depends a bit on the width you choose. I decided on 17x8, but one could go 17x7 and still fit most tires.
All the parameters are up to you. I had
Fx-003
Black (chrome was $25 wheel more)
17x8
5x150
110.1 mm hub
+40 offset
They publish the ranges for each item by wheel design.

Sometimes serendipity occurs. The little power pack fits perfectly next to the drawer in the wing.
Just need to figure out cable routing and get a strap on it.

Sacrificed two hinges to the wind gods on my rhino rack batwing 270 at lunch. Was dead calm then got a gust out of no where.
That’s the trouble with being on a cliff edge I guess. It came with two replacements, will be interesting To see how much work replacing them is.

I lost one to hanging kids 😂 was a 5 min job! 5.5 for 2 of them.

Late night Amazon warehouse ‘must have’

works so far . . .

had to shim the over the door part with some felt pads to fit

Skykomish river running about 200 feet wide at the moment. Cold ass water right off the snow slopes.
Bridalveil falls base. Supposed to be 1500 ft tall? Could see about 150 ft. Kids were caput from the approach so didn’t make it to Serene lake which I guess has better view.
I put on my raincoat and went on into the spray. Bracing!

Rhino rack part m932. Looks to be out of stock most everywhere $3 per. I just bought some from a totally jank website in Florida :nailbiting:

And jank website is legit enough to tell me they to are out of stock. Guess I’ll be playing it very safe with the hinges until these are back in general stock. Another ramification of the worldwide supply chain issues I guess.

All the Rhino stuff is ordered directly from distribution. If one is out of stock, more than likely, they all are. Very few actually keep inventory anymore.

I didn’t make the 5 min bar set by @radman, probably took me 10 min. 7 of that getting the plastic ends out of the rod.
Replaced with awning in ‘stowed’ position.
Straightforward.
There is a plastic bushing in the hinge, don’t be surprised when it drops out after removing the nut.

Version 1 of the fridge cage. At this stage I’m working on POC and keeping costs down.
Using three pieces of this light metal grid.
Ordering two packs gets four, but I used cutoffs for the top.
Many small zip ties.
It’s solid for vertical loads, wobbles pretty good if you purposely wiggle it left right, but it’ll likely be wedged pretty good when loaded, so I don’t fear too much at the moment.
Added four random screws to provide some locating to the wire bottoms, which sit in the rail mounts.
Added a hook at the back to keep it located there. For now zip tied but I think I’ll use a Velcro strap back there instead.
Easy to install, easy to remove. Lightweight. Pretty sturdy. I’m gonna roll with it and see if a v2 is required.
