I'll add to the Trijicon Reflex. Great sight with no batteries needed. I have the triangle version as well

I'll throw fire on your question...never saw sights last long at that price point with my friends shooting "open" handguns in IPSC/USPSA events, the impulse from the rounds was too much. When I went thru this with my AR build, I went with a Trijicon Reflex with triangle reticle, no regrets. I know, way over your budget, yet, as much as you shoot, not sure those sights will last long without giving you issues.

Just my 2 cents...
The reflex is a very good sight without a doubt. Just more than I am going to spend at this point. I don't wanna break the bank but I don't wanna skimp on my BPM. After lots of looking I am going with the Aimpoint PRO. Battery life is like 3 years if you leave it on at all times so I'm not too worried there. Saw one at the Gun Show this weekend for $415 FWIW.

Thanks! So i have a paratrooper stock (not original/aftermarket) on one of my M1 Carbines that collapses and makes the gun ridiculously short....I guess i need to measure.

You only worry about this stuff if you need to register it new.

Edit: Unless you are altering it etc - don't try to cut down an original - - etc.

Is the Ruger 10/22 still one of the best 22LR buns on the market? I'm now looking for one. The wife will probably say differently.

I would highly recommend the 50th Anny Edition Contest Winner that comes with the swapping high cheek weld (for scope), stainless threaded barrel and stainless action.

I guess they are getting hard to find as there is only one on Gun Broker now. Originally they were like $395.

If you are buying for a kid - get anything - especially the older ones. I got my daughter the collapsible stock folding one so she could grow into it.

Better answers to come im sure but the

SBR - short barrel rifle. Barrel inder 16" or rifle under 26" length

Gun trust- used to set up legal entity to comply with NFA and GCA for registering/liscensing class III weapons and accessories. It allows the use of NFA-regulated firearms and accessories among trustees, protects against potential future regulatory restrictions, and provides a way to transition ownership upon death

Only thing I would add is that the measurement on the barrel includes any permanently affixed flash suppressor and is from the breech, not the outer lip of the barrel. That is why you see people with 14.5" barrel M4-like guns running around. For the most part, SBRs are too loud - gotta put a suppressor on it and that is another $200 + $1k. 9MM get quieter with longer than normal barrels, so not an issue :)

You also have to get approval from the ATF EVERY time you transport the rifle out of state. Some guys put in a yearly request to transport for all of the possible places they want to go hunt, but it is still a pain if you say, live in NC and want to hunt in SC as you gotta carry your ATF stamped form, etc.

On the Gun Trust - it is just a Trust. Mine has my Dad, wife, both kids. It owns my ATF-controlled items. Another benefit is that you easily swap items in the trust ownership between trust members without having to pay the $200 fee. For example, if I decided to buy a new supressor and my Dad wanted my old one, he could just use it or buy it from me given he is on the Trust.

Well, we are finally there..............

Tim Kaine, that's the guy that could have been Hillary's VP, called for gun control after a guy ran over pedestrians with a CAR and then pulled a knife and went after more people before a police officer shot him. Perfect reason to ban guns, the guy had a knife..............

I'm waiting for the ban on cars and knives. :censor:

How I spent my Black Friday, going to the range with my girls, sighting in my new Henry Big Boy, finding a great tree for Christmas. Didn't come within miles of a mall...

Really digging this rifle, action is very smooth, found a variety of rounds to shoot including some high energy .45colt+P, all easy to handle...

We found Boyce Farms when we moved to NC 17 yrs ago, bought our tree from them every year since. Family owned, have watched their kids grow up to run the farm, always get fresh, full trees, scored again this year...

Odd request:
Anyone have any boxes of 22 SHORT laying around?

I may, but likely will not find them in time for the get together this weekend. If you can wait a few weeks I'll let you know. Might even have some CB caps.

Here I was trying to figure out shipping but I think Sam did it for me ..... are you headed to the Xmas gig? I have some shorts, Short rat shot. and short CB caps. What's your pleasure? (I do not have any blanks).

Truth to tell, I'm not sure. I have a Winchester 1892 that my grandfather bought when he was boy.
I referenced the serial number some time back IIRC it was manufactured around 1908 (I'd need to look again to be certain) and what I dug up said to only fire short through it. When I was initially cleaning it up, my FIL had a few shorts laying around that we ran through it, but it has been dormant now for about two years.
This particular rifle was apparently quite popular for shooting galleries at fairs and carnivals. My grandfather learned to shoot with it and he used it to teach mother to shoot when she was girl (in the basement:confused:).
I should probably put this up on the "Things from childhood" thread as well.

Gotcha .... So what is possible is you're chambered for .22 LR but you just want to keep the pressures low? If so that opens up things quite a bit ... You can still buy .22 longs and you can buy .22 LR CB's which are low pressure rounds.

Find out what chamber you have and we can find a round that is both cheap and available. Right now .22 LR CB's are easier to find than shorts and .22 Long.

I'll try to remember to bring it along to the barn this weekend.

Lumbee - Here are some local options for Ruger 10/22:

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Ruger 10/22 Camouflage Pattern 50th Anniversary Edition

ARMSLIST - For Sale: RUGER 10/22-TD 22LR SS 25RD TALO

ARMSLIST - For Sale: New Ruger 10/22 stainless

This is the one I was talking about above. You can easily mount a small scope and have the higher cheek weld to see through it, its all stainless and plastic so hard to beat up and it has a threaded barrel, just in case you need it :):

ARMSLIST - For Sale: LNIB Ruger 10/22 50th Anniversary Rifle w/ scope

@Rice let me know if you need to see anything else.

Ahh, so chambered for shorts .... that about says it all. can't run anything else through it.

Unless it has been rechambered which is not too uncommon for these old girls. If it has not been rechambered, don't do it! It has a boatload more value as original than changed ... ask me how I know some time :bang:

Very good point.

Figured I would bump these back up ... I am open to offers here as they will end up at Cabela's or someplace like it. I know about what I'll be offered by a gun shop on these, so If'n I'm gonna take it in the shorts, I'd rather get them to someone here. High quality pieces here that will be available at fairly decent pricing ...

Posting here since it is a "bun" thread ...

I "allegedly" might have a few items that I am forced to declare excess inventory. Thought I would list them here for anyone that is interested. If you have any "suspected" interest, please PM me and we can connect offline ....

Items I might have ;)

  • Ed Brown Kobra Carry .45ACP
  • Kimber Super Carry Custom .45ACP
  • Sig Spartan 1911 .45ACP
  • Sig Spartan Carry 1911 .45ACP
  • Marlin Cowboy Limited Octagon bbl (x3) - 1 each in .44Mag, .45 Long Colt, 45-70
All have been safe queens since I "allegedly" owned them with the exception of the Ed Brown which has been carried, but not fired much.

Showings can be arranged at the Xmas get together ....
