ha, i agree. Also, the issue with the hydashok is not just when firing. I can put one round in a mag, rack the slide, it will come out of the mag, but not go in the chamber fully. Guess i just need some different defense ammo. I have been trying to find some Winchester PDX1, but cant find a single box of 9mm.
on that note. if anyone finds a box, and doesn't mind buying it for me, i will gladly pay you back, and pay shipping, and owe you some nice beers or bottle of bourbon.
I have some Federal Hyrashock Law Enforcement holowpoints (i know not the best, but litterally the only hollow points i can find here right now) My question is, the 10th/last round of this ammo in my mag will not go into the chamber. i have probably shot 5 or 6 other types of ammo so far, and have not had a single failure. This happens EVERY time with the Hydrashok. Any thoughts.
I have just started changing this round for one of my cheap ball rounds i use for most range use when in the bed side table.
Without looking at the profile of the round in question, I'd guess the tension in your mag spring isn't strong enough to shove the round up the feed ramp. I'd put a round next to one that does cycle fine and see if there is a difference in the profile. Or, your feed ramp may need to be polished a bit to help with feeding.
1911's can have feed ramp issues and not chamber. The feed ramp designed for hardball gets befuddled by certain HPs occasionally.* Corbon Pow'RBall is my carry load in 1911s and light autos. It also has other benefits- it is a bit more powerful than most jhp, almost +P level although Corbon don't claim that. Plus the polymer ball is considered by many to penetrate clothing or other deflectors before letting the slug commence to spread. May be just web gunners theorizing but it makes sense to me. In fact I load my 357 with rifle bullets that have red polymer tips for the same reason. I mean I don't think flight characteristics out of a 2" revolover are going to be significant but the rounds are hunting rounds meant to penetrate the thick hide of a deer or whatever before expansion. The fact that the rounds look evil peeking out of the cylinders hasn't escaped my interest <rubbing hands titters maniacally>
But not going to battery on the first round? My first round is in the chamber when I leave home.
That is probably magazine lips or spring or just cleaning and polishing.
My dos centavos.
*BTW Some failure to cycle properly issues I've had in smaller guns had to do with my grip. With a polymer 32 or even my Glock 23 and a KelTec 9 I have to take a very firm grip pushing forward with my strong hand and pulling back hard with my left. Bigger guns with slower powder don't 'limp-wrist' as easily. I shoot them with a very loose barely firm grip.
Yeah it was difficult to believe that I could be limp-wristed but self-honesty is the door to healing

Parker, I've not played with any hydroshock but he're what I can tell you. I've always used Hornady for my defense load. Admittedly I am a bit of a Hornady fanboy but it comes from my experience with all of their ammo. I won't hunt with anything else either. In all my handguns I run the critical defense or critical duty and I've had zero failures. With that said, I can get some at my local shop all day long. They are $25 per 25. If you want a couple boxes lemme know and I'll go pick them up today and give them a ride to you. Just say the word brother.
Also, you said it's always the last round.....does it happen if you have just one round in the mag and cycle it or only after going through a full mag?
As posted above, I would start by polishing the load ramp. I had similar issues going from round target loads to hollow points in my Bersa .380. I polished the load ramp and took off an edge that was left there with 1000 grit paper and light oil. Works like a dream now.
I am with Eric on the Hornady. I use the Critical defense as well. I use them in my Marlin 444 as well, I generally put a round load in the tube first and then load the Hornady because if left in too long the last shell will jamb at times because it is crushed up at the tip. Not an issue loaded in magazines or a cylinder.
