Got stuck again a few times, but good Deutz company, so just a test, tires not aired down so not really trying :steer:

And got this Honda XL500R from Germany, 20 years in a barn, needed new piston, timing chain and valves and some stuff:

Now it runs and starts so coming weeks an appointment for a dutch licence plate.
Tires are 20 years old but drive fine.

And the HJ needed some welding at the front left side chassis mount, used air needle tool to smash the crap out and see what was left:

Remove battery and got the bolt out with some large tools.

But it passed the road test so good again until 2028 :wrench:

And the Subaru blew a headgasket, got it opened up but that car was so abused it was not worth it to me, so we got an Toyota Mirai.
Very happy with this technology and hydro is 12 euro a kilo here and nearby in Germany in Lingen they are building the largest plant in the world and EU wants to go to 8 euro per kilo (hi Toyota Hilux Hydro with Mirai components)

Used the winch a lot to get trees out of the forest, got a license to buy as much as I want because the ecological rules state that it needs to be cut by locals, so now so much wood in storage I might start selling it, good exercise.

Now the Netherlands has enough natural gas for the next 80 years, but since 50 years ago it was considered a waste product and sold to Germany, Belgium and Italy for the transport price.
Then the government closed the wells with concrete (some minor earthquakes) and all incentives are going to solar and wind (no decision for nuclear)

So now the Netherlands has the most solar in Europe, but it is the worst country to have solar (solar hours are lowest)

Now electricity and natural gas is so expensive that the wood we burn for fun is saving a lot of money, and people are removing solar because they have to pay to deliver solar to the grid.
Okay if you have read this you now are as politically raged as me, :bang:

I can't belive you use your truck to tow! That's a big trailer too. Probably not to heavy, but still. Great use for the ol gal!

Yes I drive with the trailer @mongoose2231 empty 820 kilo, German made, max total weight about 3300.
Today 1000 kilometer to get a BJ40 4 speed, 1979 with 2977cc = B diesel.

parted out so a lot to do, had road check 2 years ago.

BJ stands for Bondo Job
No need to check with a magnet.
But chassis is perfect, no rust, nothing welded. EDIT>> say what?!?
engine and gear should be fine.

Now slap it together to start, get numberplate, get road check.
Maybe some welding first, but I hate this demolished "build" state.

came with a Haynes manual and many new parts.

Last night the Easter bonfire was lit (vandalism), so delivered some tree stuff for the new fire this night.
Had to unload all crap, pushed the BJ off the ramp, jumped in, hit the brake so did not smash in the camper.
And now it is where it is, I can not push it in grass.

I have to really start using my 60 in the same fashion. That 60 of yours earns its keep.

So the BJ40 can start, drive, set fire to the planet and it got a Dutch license plate!
Today went for the road check and all was as expected: did not pass, but Gandalf wrote a receipt that involves melting steel and then we shall pass 🧙‍♂️

This is how it rolled of the trailer because need the trailer for wood, almost hit the camper but the brakes worked, so as "planned".
A scrapper?
cash for clunkers reversed?
I did not know, but hope was the only thing.

Trailer is a bit tired of all the crap we dump on it, hydraulic crane is so much fun to have:
2_c4f63e0c2d963237f3c6d0b6c496609b.jpg

But HJ pulls it home, in this case a few hundred meters:
2_be133cce209601fcb6a666e11cd7827e.jpg

Then go fishing with the winch and pull it to the garage:
2_fa378c55140717f3359d45572eaa6168.jpg

Then after more that I did than what I did not it could do a testrun, leaking radiator and one front wheel not braking, making the other side lock instantly, but my son drove it so we had fun:

The roof has about 26 welded nuts, a "few" of them needed thread repair and painted with copper paint, then white:

Wiper motor align must be parallel like this or the wiper goes down from rest position:

Had problems with glow (always on) because (new?) key switch seems to be wrong, fixed but this thing was fried before but it works.
Now using a push button to glow.

Time to test again, I want a second trailer puller, looks fine:

a bit of a gamble

So it has a roof, and lights!
One front signal missed a good earth so it would reverse blink. (=repeat blink off, normal light on)

2_81213dee9deda76a13c7199f58ae009d.jpg

Then brakes, nights long pressing brake lines, rust, stuck, seized, new shoes front, replaced one cylinder front, still have to order one for rear.
Front is 2 moving pistons per side (1 of 2 was stuck without any sign of releasing)
Rear has 4 moving pistons (1 of 4 is stuck, don’t think it will release, but passed road check so will not dare to touch it now)

2_fd7dc5349abeb42e8b0faa7f1305aa9e.jpg

Steering bearing was gone, missing rollers so a lot of play: right side axle shims 2 up (1mm + 0.50mm) en 1mm downside.
The axle seal was leaking straight trough when jacked sideways, same for the drive axle seal (uphill on trailer dumped oil)
2_e6b8585a41abc2958d608a147e4c6275.jpg

And the mess is just insane, but I can now change an axle seal in about 4 hours, and all the parts are the same as HJ:
Also welded the exhaust bit by bit, plate after plate, maybe buy new but it is 500 euros.

Also 4 new tires starts at 500 euros, ordered radiator 200 euro aluminum, parts already 600, ready to mount brackets/profile welding is 600
So bought this for 5000 euro, now almost with valid road check total about 7000?, but most of the parts will last for years.
So this was just a speedrun to get it road worthy.

Value in EU might go to 10k?, or more but this not for the money.

Got a rear bench but not for now, first finish the road check:

2_0f3a8defad93659f8a620604a9c0f79d.jpg

Replaced tie-rods, also fun:
2_8f63d1c22066d6ebd2c8a70c4979862a.jpg

But new ones are shorter thread and castle nut does not allow split pin:

2_964dcd6fe25fa3b8be35e4823d715fa0.jpg

But the tierod lock bolts were pretty rusted oud, so also good to replace:
2_445e88a83a35f1c219743b814118e4f6.jpg

Not rust, patina:
2_0313d73759cc701e7dd7f892900f71a5.jpg

Cleaned and greased
2_63ee9e52fcbf01e728a30a689aabb296.jpg

Filler plug is damaged, but Honda bond seems to hold, ordered thread plug with smaller plug inside.
2_da6062f8f6900d6cb4acadfecd3b052e.jpg

And it all was good because the only thing that is left to complete the road check is welding.
weld this shut both sides
2_c010f84937967813e9e7e1f3a4baf6dc.jpg

replace these bracket both sides (have fun with the rivets again)

2_0c63dd52b1dfe6b6827f325eeb62e480.jpg

And the tow hitch profile replace both sides
2_06ed6abe62e3964ee6cd7aea0d16a04e.jpg

Ordered it all so there is a probability it will be on the road again.
