Anything wrong with buying a 1990 4Runner? I know nothing about these trucks. Found one at a good price with a newer engine and trans.

Can somebody give me the nickel dissertation on 4Runners??

We had a 91 4Runner with the 3.0 V6 and the automatic. Bought it in CA before moving to Maine. A bit underpowered for the weight of the vehicle but went everywhere we ever wanted it to go. It would go through two feet of snow without any trouble. A friend had the 4 cyl version and it was horribly underpowered.

Apparently these engines are known for blowing head gaskets. There was even a recall on them at one point a long time ago for this issue. We had ours blow on us at the northernmost tip of Nova Scotia. It was pissing coolant straight out the side of the engine. Thankfully the mechanics in Cheticamp were awesome and suggested trying some radiator stop leak. It worked and we drove the thing all the way home.

One other problem we had was with the fuel injectors. The plastic housings tend to degrade over time and piss fuel onto the top of the engine. I'm sure this had to do with the years it spent in the heat of CA but it's something to check. The injectors weren't cheap to replace.

It was a great truck. Too bad it rusted to hell after 6 winters in Maine.

FYI, the NEA has officially upgraded the trail rating for the Wombus Pass from Moderate to Hard. It's getting "bony" in there and to prevent serious trail braiding they have blocked the go-rounds that were emerging around that first big ledge. If you can't get up it, winch or take a strap.

Off today, might play in the shop, have a Flyfishing date at 5.

They just had the "Man Shower" for me here at work today. I think that they just enjoyed watching me turn red as I opened a bunch of pink baby clothes.

TGIF

Not sure what's up tomorrow, I think my in laws are coming over for the afternoon. That is always nice, so BBQ and general hang-out, yard work type stuff assuming the weather clears.

hhhmmmmm.. I guess that means I need to clean my house tonight. ;)

Probably do an oil change on their car since I bought the stuff but never got around to it before they returned from Florida and we gave the car back to them (this is the 96 Accord we babysit during the winter).

I need to prep the truck for Sunday's Trail Cut-n-Wheel in Troy. My rear diff leaks a very little bit so I like to top it up ever so often. Seems to be leaking form around the locker actuator but I'm not sure. I need to grab the grease gun and hit every zirk I can find under their as well.

Last week I took the still-stinky old cargo carpet out but want to replace it with something else otherwise it's an echo chamber in the back, magnifying the tire and road noise. Probably just grab a piece of indoor outdoor carpet from HD and cut to fit.

Then Cut-n-Wheel all day Sunday! https://forum.ih8mud.com/ma-nh-yankee-toys/181074-trail-cuts-maintenance-3.html#post4446998

Talked with Scott last night about the new cut, sounds like there is a lot to do.
Should be a pretty good turn out.

Great day, cut some new carpet to replace the disgusting cargo area carpet in the truck. Took a spin downtown and bought some new flies at the Merc. Did a little mowing. Found some grass seed for "dense shade", tilled and planted a dead area in the front of my house that I've been unable to grow grass in for the last 10 years. Some chicken on the grill and a nice salad for a combo lunch-dinner.

Now relaxing and ready for the cut-n-wheel tomorrow.

Good times.

Have fun at the trail cut. I wish I could go but I will have a beer for you......and Lane......and Josh..... Then I will probably start making up names for people I am drinking for. I should be drunk by 1pm.

Pics from the Swanzey Cut-n-Wheel on Sunday at the bottom of the thread, these are all pretty much after the cutting was done.

Wow. That just looks like a Sunday drive. I thought that you guys were going to do some wheeling.

Pictures never do it justice.
