About hour after posting pic above I was playing with stove when my wife said fire it up snd test it. Great idea. Lol it hadn't been used for years and still had some old fuel in it so I figured why not try. Gave it a few pumps and it lite right up. My wife and I stood there shacking are heads in amazement that things built like this are just a part of history with the disposable mindset of most people today. At least this is one that's saved for our family to use and make memories.

View attachment 1210977 Just got this today off of Craigslist for 15$. Looks like hasn't had much use. Guy was going to throw it in garbage because he thought no one wanted any old stoves that use Coleman fuel and not propane. So I saved it.
Great find! I love those grates.

I have to try to fix center grate looks like someone got it crazy hot and started to bend and melt.
Put it on the driveway and run over it with the Cruiser-----

I bent most of it by hand with out much problem. Now I need to make some chef racks for the side like the original ones the use to offer.
I did not see the model number in the thread(prob just missed it)- They (grates) look like they would fit my new 426B.

NEW 426?

Wow, it's been a year or more since I've checked out this thread. Cool to see so much Coleman action still ongoing

Yes, me too. Thanks in part to this thread and seeing some old school coleman stuff in use on annual trips over the last few years I have decided to go retro this year and move from propane to white gas for cooking. So far I've got a 414, 424, looking for a 428 and have gotten two single mantle lanterns. Not sure I will be taking the white gas lanterns on the trail but one of the two burner stoves and a single burner dual fuel will be part of the kit on trips starting this year. We will see how it works out and how I like it.

I did exactly this several years ago. My camping propane gear like stoves and lanterns was given away long ago. Using the dual fuel gear makes sense in the off road world, but realize that even the regular stoves will burn unleaded just fine. Using exclusively white gas keeps the generators cleaner longer.

The one thing I don't like about the newer dual fuels is the pump is that neoprene plastic thing that needs replacement every decade or so. The leather pumps work better and are basically immortal. It is possible to retrofit a leather pump into a newer dual fuel if you want. I like the leather pump cups from Sefaudi (from Turkey) on ebay. They are way better than the originals from Coleman.

Other than a 3 burner stove, everyone should get an aluminum stove stand. It's like having another table with the stove not taking up valuable prep space. And the stove stand fits 426-413-425 no problem.

I take a lantern on the trail, and it works well and is fun to mess with, but I'm thinking LED lights might be more practical. In fact I made a bastardized lantern with the larger fount of a 220 with the more efficient upper of a 200A. It's become a favorite and was made from junk parts I already had.

Just picked up a 5 pack from him, got a couple old lanterns and a couple stoves to refurb for summer. Wanna share your other secret parts sources for generators and what not? :)

Thanks for the info. I have replaced the neoprene pumps on the 414 and 424 with leather using some coleman replacement parts I got at Cdn Tire, before I found out about the cups from Sefaudi. Need to order a set of 5. Just got a 1968 200 and it was not pumping. Fed the leather cup some neatsfoot oil and came back fine. The stand is a great idea and on the list.

I saw a led wing lantern a few years back at a store and bought two. So far so good...two wings that are on swivels so you can point the light where needed, no light in the face when on a table, etc. Just need a version of this that has a solar panel surface and rechargeable batteries.

No secrets. Most Coleman parts can be had from:
https://www.oldcolemanparts.com/

Especially worth it to get Peerless mantels for your lanterns. OCP has all of them.

Some other bits, and Military bits can be had from:
lonestarlantern on eBay

Rare things you need can often be found in the classifieds of:

It's worth the time to join the forum at Colemancollectors.com. Very helpful folks when trying to trouble shoot, or get something old running again.

Avoid "the goose is cooked" and similar names on ebay. He has a lot of stuff, all of it seemingly mis-represented.

class is IN SESSION

That above mentioned lantern is not rare. It's actually pretty common and I have several. That one is in great shape though.
