Update for short term plans for the truck:

- Take all the cladding and flares off to chop the fenders and paint everything white. Flares will be going back on white :D
- Fix rear hatch rust and driver side front fender paint
- Finish the rear bumper and paint the swingout white
- Paint front bumper white
- Tapered coils are on order so I'll soon have those and some 1" spacers for a 5" lift
- Do I chop the rockers and weld in some 3/16" plate to reinforce the body/A,B pillars? Still TBD

Chopping the rockers is the best bang for the buck for off road clearance, that and getting the exhaust up over the frame. But I think you know all of that ;)
Cheers

So you are going with a 5" lift & 37s when you use to have a rig 3" lift & 40s????
What are you intentions with this Lx?
Seems like the 3" & 37s were working for you. I kind of regret cutting up my cladding.

I’m going to chop for 40s but keep all the cladding and flares. My flares are already gutted so I just need to chop the body now. 40” all terrains are in my future. As for the bigger lift I just want the truck lifted more. Not a real reason behind it haha.

Edit: I would prefer the higher lift so I can go faster offroad without bottoming out as much. 3” and 40s was awesome but at this point I want the uptravel for ride quality.

This truck is being built for an Alaska trip next summer so deep water crossings will be a thing is also why I want to lift it 5”

40s with cladding Eh? I wanna see that... you lead the way.
I always enjoy your builds...
What 40" all terrain tires are you looking at?
What are you thoughts on the 39x13.5 KM3 or the 39x12.5 Mud Hogs?

I have the 3" tapered's up front and they soak up the the bumps in what I would consider normal roads, but it "wallows" pretty bad on high speed whoops. Feels like it uses way too much compression. Slee 6" never felt like that and I am using the same amount of up travel overall. I am pretty heavy in front which is making it worse. I have heavy shocks and even added Timbren bumps to the frame in front. Can't tell they are there.

Moral of the story is that you may have to look into other ways of controlling/dampening the suspension compression forces that come with higher speeds. I don't think those Dobi's will do it with just shocks alone.

The route planning is still in process, but we will be doing both the dalton and dempster hwy. As well as some more serious wheeling still tbd. I always regretted not doing the Alaska trip I wanted in my last truck, so it’s definitely happening with this one.
Check out the Knik Glacier Trail. It has sand dunes, a beautiful glacial river, the Knik glacier, and all at the base of a beautiful set of mountain ranges. These trails are probably the most popular offroad destinations in south-central Alaska. They are often filmed by out of state crews when they offroad in Alaska; parts of Expedition Overland (Season 1, Episode 5), Dirt Every Day (Episode 57), and Nitto's 2016 JK-Experience all have been filmed along these 4x4 trails.

3 river crossings - may be too deep if crossing early in the season, but sounds like you’re prepared for this.
