yep I prefer the TJM profile. I could have had one a month or 2 ago when a shipment came in and a couple were unspoken for.
But I procrastinated now I'll take whichever I can get soonest......so I imagine I'll end up with an Arb. The wait for a TJM is notoriously slow.
I'm gonna call Cali and see if he has any floating in route but I doubt it.

Nice work! You summed up 3+ plus years like it was yesterday! Hope to see you next year or I may be back in Louisville soon...

You did the kdss bracket relo correct? Did that help with the 35s and rubbing with RW?

Hit me up again if you come back through Louisville!
Yes I did the Slee relo brackets and it made the 35's fitting possible - otherwise that's a no go unless you do the Tundra front components swap as some have. With the slee relo bracket and 35's you'll still have to "massage" the back part of the front wheel wells. The rocker panel covers have a bolt and bracket that stick out a bit and will interfere with the turning radius. I massaged that with a hammer and gently moved that out of the way. If you go the slee relo and 35's route you'll find out quickly that its a must. Just trimming and cutting alone will not yield the rub free results. doesn't look any different on the outside - but remember its the inside that counts - right? lol

Hi Willy, How do you like the 4:88 gears? Have you been off road with them? Highway driving? or do you do any towing?

I think he's probably still in the break-in period... I'm SURE he's itching to mash the skinny pedal though...!

I'll be re-gearing too...but waiting on the coinage... $$

Hit this milage milestone yesterday. I have been @ 55mph until now....which is like watching paint dry. Had the front and rear fluids changed out late yesterday and was told that looked as it should. I havent been able to go off road yet. Today ill be able to flex that skinny pedal a bit to see what it has. Thus far the truck feels like a tiger ready to pounce. The torque is there for sure.
Really I should have done this a while back but oh well, better late than never. I was just so used to thevtruck before. Its like a new car i kid you not.

(That's the sound of fate whispering in your ear)

Great build thread. Jealous of your maps and lockers, and gears, and rack...the lust goes on and on.

Thank you. You've had me on the 37 wish list for longer than i care to admit.
Thank you for the compliments man!

Willy, love your post build, build thread! I'm curious about your re-gear and air locker purchase/install. Often times when purchasing a locker, the casing will only fit a certain size of ring gears. I'm guessing that the 4.88's are substantially bigger than the factory 3.909's, but am curious to know it the lockers would have fit the factory gears as well as the new ones. If they would fit, then others could do the locker upgrade, and then later do the gears if they needed to.

Thank you. Without knowing all the details a mechanical minded person knows i can say this. The rear air locker was in for a year plus on the OE gears before i went 4:88's. Now whether my shop had to do anything to the lockers to get them to mate up with the 4:88's i do not know. It didnt come up in the conversation post install. Hope thats what you were asking

I am now--officially--itching for 4.88's even more...
-Definitely miss my "zippy" (amazing "zippy" is possible at nearly 8000lbs!) Cruiser!

Thanks Willy! I didn't know you had the lockers before the re-gear. I thought it was something you added at the same time. Glad you're enjoying the new gears.

With the 9.5 on the 200 series rear, the ARB will fit all gear ratios:

ARBRD152

Upgrade away!

Just curious, but why the move to 4.88 gears and not 4.30 like a Tundra? 4.35:1 on 35s would provide identical gearing to stock. I always felt like first gear on a stock truck was like a cheetah - I'm trying to imagine what 4.88 gears would be like even with the larger tires, and what gas mileage will look like.

Gear Ratio Calculator

If it's mainly for 4Lo crawling I get it, or if (like me) you tow a heavy trailer very often particularly through the mountains (unlike me).

Because the factory 3.9 gearing is not ideal at all. 6th gear is hardly useful. Also on tundra's we do 4.88 w/ 33+ all the time (even coming from 4.30) 2000 RPM's at 70 mph w/ 35's and 4.88 is perfect, keeps it in overdrive, using less fuel. Only time it may be worse is running 90 mph, but that is a small trade off for the performance, drivability, mpg the rest of the time. 6th gear is .58:1 so much taller than most any other vehicle out there.

I take it you would recommend 4.88s for those of us on 34s?

FWIW 3.90 on 34s is fine in Chicago, but towing through the mountains in Colorado I have to agree it sucked. At one point my wife asked me why we were getting passed by a semi while I was going ~45 up a hill on the interstate and said "that's all she's got" in my best scottish accent.

@justdifferentials obviously has far more gear experience than me. But To add on, I did have access to a tundra diff with 4.30s (couldn't put the rear sway bar on as the cases are different, some harmonic balancer thing) but 4.30s didn't give me anything more in the highway, 6th was still hard to stay in, and I am in 33s and a bumper (aerodynamics loss), and in Georgia. Plenty of air and flat ground.

Put in 4.88s and they are perfect. Gear calculators are only half the equation. I wouldn't waste my money at all for 4.30s. If you feel you need more gear, then in my opinion you will be disappointed with 4.30 as I was, good thing it didn't cost me a dime to test.

Thanks @Taco2Cruiser. I only roll in the mountains once a year so I can live with abysmal performance on a few mountain passes for now. If I'll regear if I ever move out west or start making more frequent trips
