Not bad. Wish these came in 285/85r16.
I have been thinking about it myself.
These wheels will certainly work, I don’t know the specs on them but they look like a 8” wide with 4.5” or there about a of bs. Stock 80 was right around 4.5” of bs so you can’t really go much father than that.
I would think to get the most tuck you would want maybe a 7 or 7.5” wide wheel with that 4.5” of bs.
Problem then is tires that go on that narrow of a wheel. 255/85 is one and depending on brand a solid 33”. Nitto sells a 35x10.5r17. Other than that I don’t know if a lot of skinnies out there these days beside Super Swampers.
Cheers
So frustrating that the manufactures only offer wider large tires now... I would go for a 35x10.5r17 as a first choice if it was offered. Nitto doesn't offer the Trail or Ridge in that size any more. Booo.I have been thinking about it myself.

Toyota 4 runner spare is 17x7, FJ is 17x7.5, both 4.5" back space and kenda has a 35x10.5R17...

Rode down to and around Baja with someone using the Kenda A/T2 that was released last year. I just bought tires and it is what I would have gone with if they offered it in the 35x10.5r17 size. They will eventually, but they don't have it out yet. It did great on snow, ice, sand and rocks. They were 10 out of 10 for an all condition tire.
Get someWorking on the FTE.

You wont be disappointed, FTE especially with EGR delete is best it gets for Toyota diesel.
Cheers
Yeah, I'm not sure which one I'll go with. Correct me if I'm wrong but the FTE was never offered in a wide nose 70 and I'm not sure how an OEM 1HZ radiator will hold up to a red wheel Gturbo'd FTE. Might have to go non-OEM unfortunately. We'll see.
The only other "news" is I've been reading a lot of the RM617 I got from @joekatana Lots of interesting info in there I've been nerding out over.
You should be able to get a HDJ79/78 radiator. Don’t know if it would fit. Maybe a radiator for the wide nose HZ powered rigs.Yeah, I'm not sure which one I'll go with. Almost positive a narrow nose radiator won't work in a wide nose. The radiator supports are vastly different.
I believe the inlet/outlet locations are similar between the VDJ79 and the HD/HZ radiator so I'm sure something OEM will fit.
If it cools a 1VD it should be ok for an FTE.
