I have good friends and I’ve gotten very lucky.

New tires and a 70 series 16’s will be on soon.

Still drowning in tire choices. Stuck between a 255/85 or a 285/75. A true 33” tall and skinny or a wider 32.8”

I really want the g003 mud terrain tires by Yokohama since I’m not driving the truck 350 miles a week currently. They look great and are supposed to be really quiet for what they are.

Also, I was experiencing a huge .5v drop with all my electrics on when I pressed the brake. I could dip the volt gauge both on my dash my my digital blue tooth gauge.

Now, with the LED brake bulbs I get .05 drop and they’re way brighter. Before/after.

In all fairness, the tail lights were original koito bulbs. They’ve served for 32 years and 320k. I’m sure the resistance was high.

Also I’ve got a national Luna dual battery kit that a friend gave me.

I’m going with a normal run of the mill lead acid group 27 dual purpose marine battery for about $90 from Costco. I’ve already got the dual stainless trays and it’s mostly a drop in.

The plan is to use it to save the alternator when winching and have the self start capability.

I’ll eventually run two Anderson plugs to the back and have an inverter and fridge for camping use.

Alex I have 285/75 on mine and love the size and look, although mine are on a wider 8” rim so it gives them a wider “aggressive” look. How wide is that OEM steelie?

I need a battery too, the Sears Platinum group 65 has finally had it, that thing has been a beast over the years but it’s freakin huge, very crowded in that corner. Can’t decide if I want to get another “premium” battery or just go with a standard Costco off the shelf type.

Original bulbs?? That’s crazy.

I think it’s a 16x6. I know I need the 255 to be closer to proper. The 285/75 won’t be ideal but can’t be worse than a 10.5 on a 5.5” wheel like I’ve got currently.

That’s what @Godwin runs and it looks and functions great.

I decided to be radical and try something small. So instead of 285/75-16 I’m now going with tall and skinny 235/85-16. Just a really good tough E rated tire that should last a long time.

I decided to run a Falken Wildpeak AT3W. It’s got great reviews and a 17/32” tread depth.

Here’s a picture of the 31.8” 235/85. Considering my 33x10.5” was only 32.5” brand new, I don’t expect much of a difference in appearance.

Not precise, but the basic idea is there. They’re well below the 32.5” as advertised.

These BFG definitely don’t run true to size. Even with the weight of the truck and the loss from wear, these are small.

BFG tires definitely run small, especially the km3. The ko2 should be close. Check the measurement across the tire to eliminate the loss from the weight of the truck. All tires will be an 1" + lower on the truck.
I'm agonizing over final tire/wheel combo for Chunk too. I am liking those Yokohama M/T tires though.
@Godwin 's set up is my favorite so far.

I hadn't even thought of the Falken. They sound pretty good too. I gotta do some reading up on them.

The main drawback about the tires is that they are have a load range of E and are heavy. I've previously had BFG KM2 255s with a load range of E and they were also heavy. This weight impacts fuel mileage and I've seen a drop of 1-2 mpg going from load range C 33x10.5x15 to the 255/85/16.

I've been driving FJ60s for over 25 years and most of the miles were on 33x12.5x15 tires but made the switch to the tall narrow tires and think this is now the best set up.

255/85r16 Toyo MT as seen on @gt7058a

33.4” tall advertised, and great reviews. But $283 each. Ouch.

I really like those 70 series wheels. I had planned on factory 40 series steel wheels with caps but man, that looks good on Chris's truck

I dropped the 70 series wheels for a set of Toyo Open country MT.

My wallet is unhappy but I hope that a top tier tire is as satisfying as the internet makes it out to be.

So what size did you go with?

I had the pedal drop to the floor last night.

The Aisin clutch master that I purchased in 2016 is leaking. It’s a slow leak, I topped it off last night.

I’m going to replace the master and slave as a pair.

New wheels and tires are on...

16x6 70 series wheels 426016026203
255/85r16 Toyo Open Country MT 33.4” tall.

I really like the look. I’m proud to finally have the right wheel and tire combo. The E rated sidewall is not a big deal to me, handling is greatly improved and these are actually true to size unlike my crack ridden BFG K02.

The only noticeable noise is when slowing down below 5mph to a complete stop. You can feel the tread blocks for a second. I’ve heard great reviews about these and the tread life is supposed to be amazing. I was going to get something more tame but these spoke to me.
