We did two days of back country camping and now we’re in ouray. Tomorrow will be Ophir to telluride and Saturday will be the alpine loop.

As soon as I get back, I’m sending my 62 center sections to zuk for a rebuild and an arb air locker. The truck needs some more oomph, but it’s done everything I asked. We camped at 10,000 last night and it’s done all the mountain passes up to 11,000 without issue.

We’re having a great time.

First great trip.
How are you finding that carb on the mountain passes so far? The 4:11 i will assume will help with this a lot.

Zero issues. When I hit 4,000 feet in Texas it started to do a low idle. I reset the idle and the ac idle up and it’s been fine. It’s slow, but I don’t think much is going to fix that. I was able to run up to 11,000 feet on monarch pass on the highway while staying in the slow lane.

I also added a tee to the distributor pod to allow both pods to come on.

Last year I adjusted the timing @ 4,000 ft and set it to 14 with only the large pod being hooked up and it did great. Adding the tee to the pods gives me more initial advance without any real work. It’s a de-smogged high altitude compensation for me.

It’s slow, grumpy and old. But it made it to the top and back down!

Nice.
Slow, grumpy and old.....to funny.

The positive is that I’ve gotten the go ahead to put a 5.3 into it. No more slow lane ....eventually!

You’ll love the V8 with the 5 speed. It’s a great combination.

Nice looking truck though. No nonsense, and looks as it should. Not a garage queen, but good to go.

Thanks. It didn’t disappoint me at all this whole trip!

It’s going to get gears and a rear locker next. Just to not have to use the skinny pedal as much and risk bouncing.

Telluride, CO to Lubbock, TX today. 637 miles, 11 hours, 14.8 mpg, 73 mph average, crossed 316,000 miles.

2,500 miles of road trip finally claimed a victim. My oem blower motor died coming into Texas.

I had a spare NOS one I picked up from an eBay seller in Iran of all places. Swapped it in just now and had no idea how weak the last fan was. There is actually force coming from the vents now !

Looks like a 2F. Going to tear down tomorrow and see how bad it is.

@HemiAlex What are you scheming? :hmm:

2F all the things!

Take this 120k shortblock and put it my truck. No more oil burning and more compression.

Take the 317k shortblock and reseal it if the F in the 40 has issues.

good plan, EFI V8's really ruin these trucks

I want to put the 5.3 in it.

But I don’t want to take the truck apart since it runs good.

I just want to keep it simple for now. I can swap a shortblock in a weekend.
