About how long are people waiting for shipping times on Mamba anyway? I haven’t gotten a “it’s shipped” email yet 😬
I bought mine from awdpower1996 off of eBay and it was in Washington state in a week, I think it shipped from the UK.
That was pre-covid shipping time tho

Td04l or td04hl 13t or 16t with a 6cm hot side
I think 13T would be ideal if Nath is doing any mountain work. 16T is an option if it stays closer to sea-level. I wouldn't be scared to go as small as TD04-5cm turbine.
What you experts think about installing Holset HE221W with 5.5cm2 exhaust housing to 3B? I just happened to buy one.
Is it good or why not?

I’d like to run about max. 10 psi boost and minimal fuel adding.

Why you say so?
Ok, that’s why (HE221W map):

But if I read this correct, this would work in 3B quite well. It’s not perfect, but should be on the map if the red line is correct flow. Right?

It'll work but it's not the most efficient (it's a high boost turbo).

A MHI variant will likely be more effiicient. I see a solid recommendation in the other thread.

What’s this? Link to the other thread?

I just ordered the CT26M with the next bigger (7M-GTE sized) compressor housing. Ordered via Mamba's Ebay store as it was actually slightly cheaper than ordering through the website. Got a shipping notification within 48 hours.

Has yours arrived?

I'm actually 'stepping down' from a mamba TD05-16G on my BJ74 to the CT26M, trying to get boost earlier in the rev range.

Mine has landed in the USA as of today. Should be to my door by the end of the week.

Hmm... 🤔 What I’ve got? This is HE221W, but the turbine is about 44 mm (11 blade) and compressor about 40 mm (exducer).

The CT26 turbines are not efficient and hence don't boost early. You'd be better with a smaller compressor wheel and turbine housing on your TD05.

Post a pic of the turbine wheel. There are a lot of counterfeit Holsets around.

It looks genuine to me, but I am not familiar with these.

But what I’ve seen the compressor should be 43.45 mm and turbine 45.7 mm. This have more like HE211W compressor (40.6 mm) and TD04H turbine (1.74”/44.2 mm).

This is all the info I managed to get of it:

I measured the wheels
• compressor 40.9/58.1 mm (w/extend tip, right?)
• turbine 44.2/48.8 mm (5.5 cm2 housing)

So, this is some mix of everything. Maybe more suitable for 3B than regular HE221W?
🤔

Hi matti,
As you've probably read in old posts I have a he221w with 5.5cm turbine housing on my 13bt. The numbers on the id plate are quite different to yours though. I never checked the size of the wheels. Obviously holset never intend their turbos to be used by the aftermarket automotive crowd, so it's not that surprising that that different spec turbos might not be easy to identify.

I'm really happy with the performance of the turbo, I think I'd be hitting 10psi of boost by 1600rpm under load, compared to at least 2000rpm with the stock ct26. Start to see boost on the gauge at about 1200rpm, maybe as low as 1100rpm. If your turbo has smaller comp and turbine wheels than mine then it would seem likely your turbo might be even more responsive.

When people have posted that the td04 turbos are better options, I don't think they're suggesting that the holset won't work well. Seeing as how you've already purchased the holset, I guess you've already committed to fitting it. I'm sure you'll be happy with how it performs.

That looks like a good genuine one. Counterfeit usually have terrible turbine designs. Yours has the good 11 blade turbine.

But the compressor is way smaller. Probably a good thing as it'll likely be more efficient.

I've been casually keeping an eye out for a twinscroll td04hla for a while now. I've seen 2 for sale, but they were a bit expensive, particularly seeing as how I only really want the exhaust housing to use with my he221w. My luck came in today and I found someone selling one locally for cheap.

Just need to pull the holset off and make sure it fits the td04hla housing. The turbine wheel seems to measure up within 0.5mm of what the holset should be, probably identical but hard to measure with the odd number of blades. There's plenty of reports of people using regular td04hl housings with the he221. I'm not missing anything here am I? Anything I should be particularly looking for when I check the compatibility?

What's that off, what's the turbine housing size and what's your plan?
To run a twin scroll on a 4 cylinder you want to pair 1-4 and 2-3. It's difficult to do but there are a few nice examples including a Cummins 4BT manifold.

If the turbine spins and doesn't scrape the housing when pushed across you're probably good.

Suburu legacy, only on certain jdm models and not too common. It's meant to be 8.5cm, vs the 5.5cm on the holset. We discussed this a while back, maybe 6months ago in another thread, and you thought the twinscroll wouldn't be enough not to notice reduced response due to the housing size difference. But it turns out gerg ran the td04hla on his 3b before moving to his compound setup. He really rated it, and from what he described in the thread at the time I might not lose any early spool up.

I enjoy a bit of fab work, so I'll weld up a twinscroll manifold in as efficient design possible, then see how it runs. The only bit that I don't enjoy is the die grinding...

Over Christmas I made up this divorced wastegate exhaust. It didn't make a massive difference, but could feel a small difference on the bum dyno, and see it on the boost gauge, hitting 20psi at maybe 1950rpm rather than 2100.
