Lately, as I've been wondering what work my 100 series needs, my thoughts have been turning to the smell that wafts from my engine compartment after a drive: that dark, industrial hot rubber smell.

Is this typical of cruisers or is there something I can do to lessen the stench? If this is a signature olfactory signature of the rig, then I'll embrace it. But if it's not, I'd like to do something to help my rig be less fragrant. Thanks in advance for odiferous comments and advice.

Head cover oil leaks on hot exhaust, smell like burning oil.

A nastier smell is sometimes cooking, under intake manifold. Rodents love to nest there.

Has the car been sprayed with any type of undercoating? The engine should not smell if there are no leaks.
No treatments. After reading these comments, I'm going to look into the leaks.

BTW: It is not typical to have any odors while driving. Any odors, indicate some issue that needs correcting.

Exception is, mild exhaust fumes while parked. Which is normal for any modern combustion engine, with working emission controls systems.
