FJ-55 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 4 DOOR

Very little info, I know, but a very possible buy for me.

The guy is a bit of a tweak but he tells me the motor is seized due to a broken tooth on the timing gears.

He got it 3 years ago from a friend that was going to swap in the isuzu diesel but never did.

It's been sitting for about 10 years total. Interior looks halfway decent.

Coming from the FJ60 section, I've always wanted to add a :pig: to the fleet.

Went and looked at it this morning. Definitely some expected rust on the lower end of the vehicle and the rain gutters, not on the frame though. The frame is also boxed which he says is a rare option for that year. He also has the original safari rack from Toyota that came with the vehicle. Comes with motor brackets for v8 swap, also he has a rear tranny mount that bolts to the frame.

Hes giving me a good deal on it, I mentioned that I work at Goodyear so he wants a set of tires for his other vehicle and like $100-$150.

Couple other things:

No pink, no key.

He does however have the VIN from the chassis and the motor though, and the last registered owners address and phone # (from ohio) if I need to contact them.

No title and no key? He is going to have a hard time selling it period. You will have to go through hassle to get a title.

"Original motor" that is in it does not have timing chain. Cam is gear driven in 1/2/3 F engines.

How bad do you want it?

I would not give over 4 for a vehicle with no title and blown engine.

In Californnia you can get a conditional title. If no one protests your title for a year then yoiu can get the normal title. This is all assuming there is no stolen / scrapped/ etc info in the infamous DMV computer system on the vehicle. Want a pig to power with something else? looks like a pretty good candidate to me.

So if you join the society for the preservation of swine - tire deals for all your brother swiners????? :)

You could also try going down to the DMV with the VIN number and have them run it. Did that with the parts pig that provided the body for mine and they provided an affidavit it was not in the AZ system. A little peace of mind and a doc that might make it easier to title. In CO you can get a bond title for a few bucks extra but it involves an inspection by the State Patrol and jumping through some other hoops.
If I needed it and was closer, I'd buy it without hesitation. You can sell a few parts and be at least even if all else fails.

Clearin a space at the house and pickin it up tomorrow night. Looks like a bit of fun paperwork, but I'm pretty stoked.

Got it Saturday night, I'll have to put up some pics tonight.

Talkin about tires? I'll ask the boss about deals, give me some sizes and brands and I'll see what I can do.

Good job and good luck with the paperwork. Where are you located? I am pulling a fine running f motor in a week and throwing it away. If you want to put a running motor in that thing and get it on the road for now, I'd give it to you. However, I do have a couple hundred dollars ( or so) in the HEI, Weber carb and headers. I'd probably want a little change for that stuff. I also will be offloading a nice four speed mated to a three speed case. All work great, even a rebuilt parking brake. I'd give you a smoking deal on that stuff. Just a thought since it would bolt right in and you could drive her around a bit. I also have a really nice front bench seat for $50. Black with just a couple very small rips in the lower front part.

I'll be in the Stockton area for a couple weeks if you want to PM me for the motor.

Welcome aboard!

I, too, saw that one on CL. Glad someone on here got it. I wish I had the room for another project. I don't have room for the one I have. Looking forward to see how this one progresses.

excellent! lost titles aren't the end of the world in my book. Good work!

Congrats!

Great group of guys here stay in touch and let us know how your doing and anything you need. Incredible amount of help available here!

Wecome to the pen!

Can't wait to get this thing running! Bigsal is giving me a great deal on his whole drivetrain (motor, 4-speed and t-case). I need to get it in the next couple of weeks, sounds like I'm going to get this piggy running a lot sooner than I thought.

Brakes are my next concern, however it looks like the last thing that was done to it before it went out of commission was a brake service. We'll see how that has held up over the years.

you should look into upgrading to a dual circuit system, verus the old 1 circuit. it doesn't need to be boosted just the redundency

Where can I find more information on that?

It would be an upgrade of the master cylinder from one w/ single outlet to the dual output master. Not sure what year they changed them.
Does yours have power breaks? I think I remember seeing a '69 with a remote booster?
