Yeah, we'll just have to find that screaming deal on radios. I was looking around on the net last night and you can spend a lot of money if you're not careful. It will be nice to have an idea of what I'm looking at once I've taken the class.

Shawn is fairly knowledgable about 2M. I'm sure he could give us some feedback on different radios.

Based on the conversation I had with Alvaro a dual band is the goal...and I want/need one with a remote head unit.

I'm thinking about a hand held. That would cut the cost of equiping two rigs. I would still have an antenna on each rig. And I would select a unit with external mic capability.

If money were no object I would put the same hand held unit in the 40 (for security and to have a hand held unit avaliable) and get a remote head unit for the second vehicle.

From the little I've learned, that is what I'm thinking about as well. I definitely want to keep the dash as uncluttered as possible.

Which two bands?
2M for sure but which other band?

I think the other band is 70cm...although it allows you to talk and scan at the same time with the dual band model within the same band...per Alvaro.

Spoke to Alvaro tonight...I mentioned it would be nice to be able see, touch, feel & discuss the various available mobile/2M/HAM radios. He said there is a place in Oakland (sorry can't remember the name...d'oh)...sounds like a near future road trip to check them out. Alvaro is interested in joining when I/we go...

I know Im coming into this a bit late, but can someone post the info on this class. Im not sure if I have the time to do this right now, but I wanna at least look into it.

Dan posted the link on battleborncruisers.org. I don't know how to do a direct link, sorry.
