Recently we had the chance to test out an Off Road Teardrop from SoCal Teardrops located in Upland Ca. We were very pleased with what we experienced and so much so we may be buying one for ourselves! Thanks to Gabe Pari (member on this board) for letting us tool around with it.

The Adventure Duo: Teardrop Testing in the Mojave Desert

A friend of mine has one of these in the offroad version as well and he loves it. He has taken it through some pretty rough spots and it has done well. I have seen these in person and they are very nice, would love to have one.

We are making the same decisions for the same reasons. Teardrop concept is fully designed but I won't start fabbing the new frame until the old trailer sells. Hopefully soon so I can have the teardrop built by overland expo. Glad to hear you liked the teardrop - it's a great concept.

Whaaaat?!! That thing is sweet. Makes me rethink my trailer wish list. Wonder if it will fit in the small area I can back a trailer into next to my garage. Let me chk their site :)

Nice, great concept.

Pricing is competitive like you mentioned but paying 2x for what I did for my cruiser just for a new trailer would be tough to justify. Are these hard to find used? Any way to get the price point say below 10k?

Compared to the 15k for the setup dave tested, what price range are your budgeting for something custom?

Thanks
Brian

Couple friends had one at SNT - they are cool. An un-assembled one was also delivered for pickup - the sides were stacked nice and neat on the trailer frame - so I think you can buy them in kit form.

$10,000. That includes custom fabbed chassis to my specs, skid plate protected water tanks under chassis, Leaf springs/shocks on 3500# brake axle, rear tire swingout, mechanical systems (batteries/on demand water heater/plumbing system/ propane system) and of course the teardrop itself which is constructed of 1" welded aluminum square tube and skinned in aluminum. I already have some stuff like the Norcold, stove, grill, propane tanks, tires, etc so those items aren't included in the estimate.

Can't wait to start the project. No idea how it will come out compared to the professionally built ones like the subject teardrop. Looking forward to seeing one of those sometime.

How big is the sleeping area? I've always really liked these behind street rods, but but I don't know if I would fit in one. I'm over 6'4" and my wife is about 5'8"

Very cool setup. I love the design.

Thanks for the link. It looks like the standard design is 77.5 inches long. That's a lot bigger than I expected. They don't look that big.

That just shows how efficient the design is. Now, if I could just sell the :princess: on the Cal-Delux :D

The local car club here in Rosamond has a Teardrop for sale, but it is a bit rough and set-up for towing behind a car. I can try and find out how much they want for it at the next club meeting if anyone is interested. It shouldn't be that tough to get the ride height up to Cruiser level. Having a set of axle flanges drilled for the Toyota 6 lug could mean a pair of spare tires too, or at least they would match what's towing it.

I was out there with Dave on that trip. My wife and I were both very impressed with the teardrop. So much so that if I didn't already drive a quad cab long bed truck through some tight spots, I'd think about getting one. Wife has still mentioned she loved it, and would like one... We'll see... :D

Dave and company - looks like it was a good trip!

SoCal _80 - are you bringing the smoker to the Expo Rendezvous? :D

Yep, planning on doing either pulled pork or tri tip!

I passed this guy on my way back to the office today. The one on the back was an "offroad" model. Very nice!
