Has anyone put in a targa top? I think this would be really neat. Any ideas where to get this done at? I envision something like the Cali Edition 318TIs. For those who have seen Elsie, she has a big AC on the roof. I havent decided if I want to remove it or not, but if I do, there will be a hole tat I would need to fill, and a push-up sunroof just doesn't seem appealing.

If I keep the roof top ac, I will most likely upgrade it to a newer/sleeker system. I am sure the system uses R12, which is another reason to bale.

check out the soft tops for VW busses.........and that ol a/c is AWESOME, it would look pretty cool with a shark mouth... if you're set on the convertible top, start it behind the condenser...ya know, a flip top lid/bed/tent on top and a means for access from inside the wagon would be pretty slick

that's not a targa top

No. It's not. I saw the title of the thread and thought that might be the most hillbilly thing I've seen in a long time. A big canvass sun roof would be OK, I guess. A targa top or T tops would not.

This is a targa top.

Although, now that I think about it, I've always though my daughters Tracker had a little bit of a fj55 look about it and it has a targa top, kinda. The roof panel comes out, but there is a bar above the door frames to make it more of a big sunroof.

I am just feeling out what I could do with the top, still undecided. I may fix up the AC, then later down the line open the roof on it. The Shark paint-job would be cool, especially since I live in "Keep Austin Weird". My immediate focus is to get it to pass inspection, then start the mercedes/h55 swap, then worry about the roof.

Yea, I didnt know exactly what to call it, targa was the closest I could come. Growing up, my friends dad had a cherry 1984 911 Targa. And I certainly wouldn't do anything like that, that would be pretty fugly.

But I really like the folding canvas roof. green grass hopper came over last night and he mentioned that about 8 years ago he worked on a 55 with a folding roof in Austin. The owner bought it already done, so a PO did it. He said it was really sweet. Anyone ever heard/seen this one?
